Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to provide counseling and other therapeuticmental health services to adolescents with adolescents with emotional disabilities including court involved youth. This position is an entry level position that requires basic knowledge of effective counseling and group leadership techniques various treatment interventions theories of human behavior and group dynamics patterns of interpersonal relationships and issues of human growth and development. Under close supervision this position learns to apply principles to practice and assists other professional and paraprofessional staff in providing quality care to adolescents on an assigned unit. This position has multiple vacancies with rotating day (7A-3:30p) and/or evening (2:30P-11P) shifts.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of 60 credit hours from an accredited college or university with aminimum of 12 credit hours in mental health health human services educationor related behavioral sciences including six credit hours in psychologycounseling addictions or mental health.

Note:Candidates may substituteU.S. Armed Forces military serviceexperience as a non-commissionedofficer in Mental Addictions orBehavioral Health Counseling andPsychology classificationsorMental Addictions or Behavioral HealthCounseling andPsychologyspecialty codes in the counseling field ofwork on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

The desired candidate should possess experience working with adolescents with emotional disabilities and court involved youth.

LICENSES REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

in thisclassification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motorvehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess amotor vehicle operators license valid in the State of Maryland.

in thisclassification may be required to successfully complete cardiopulmonaryresuscitation training and maintain current certification.

in thisclassification may be assigned duties in a swimming program. Employeesassigned such duties may be required to obtain certification in Life Saving andWater Safety.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Persons appointed topositions in this classification must successfully complete an in-servicetraining program and examination approved by the hiring facility prior to apermanent appointment.
