The Buyer is responsible for the procurement of materials equipment and services at the lowest total cost to Nucor. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: sourcing evaluating and negotiating required material equipment or services; replenishment of warehouse inventory; handling processing requisitions and preparing purchase orders; ensuring that contractors have the proper insurance coverage; developing and maintaining relationships with key suppliers/contractors; contributing to Nucor enterprise-wide purchasing efforts; identifying opportunities for cost reduction; maintaining supplier compliance / quality files; coordinating with operating departments on cost savings and improved processes; provide after-hours/ weekend support as needed; utilize companys procurement card program for low dollar transactions; performs duties and responsibilities with minimal supervision.

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate lead and uphold safety policies practices procedures and housekeeping standards at all times.
Minimum 1 year purchasing related experience in a manufacturing / construction environment
Associates degree or equivalent experience.
Organizational skills with the demonstrated ability to pay attention to detail analyze information and make sound decisions.
Proficient in computer applications.
Purchasing related experience in a manufacturing environment or equivalent steel manufacturing experience.
Bachelors degree in Business Engineering or Supply Chain Management
Ability to read and interpret machine drawings.
