Position Overview

  • Job Title: Business Development Director (Heavy Civil Construction)
  • Compensation Budget: $220000 $275000 / year
  • Location: Onsite Southern California
  • Relocation: Paid Relocation assistance is available for the ideal candidate

Summary

The Business Development Director is responsible for implementing progressive sales and business strategies to expand and diversify our customer base. This role focuses on identifying new project opportunities and cultivating high-impact lasting relationships with clients owners designers and engineers within the heavy civil sector.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

Strategy & Pipeline Development

  • Develop and execute targeted strategies for capturing new public and private sector project opportunities.
  • Identify potential leads research background data and collaborate with Region/Area Managers Estimating and Marketing teams to prioritize and pursue high-value projects.
  • Contribute strategic insights and market intelligence to long-term corporate business planning.
  • Stay ahead of market trends competitive intelligence and the political landscape impacting our target markets.
  • Lead business development meetings to communicate pipeline health identify new targets and assess/implement winning strategies.

Client Presentation & Proposal Leadership

  • Partner with pursuit teams to lead responses to Requests for Proposals (RFPs) Requests for Qualifications (RFQs) and other critical project submittals.
  • Formulate pursuit implementation strategies identifying key objectives features benefits and differentiators.
  • Coordinate presentation strategies provide coaching and preparation for presenters and offer constructive feedback to maximize win rates.

Relationship Management & Community Engagement

  • Establish build and maintain deep-rooted relationships with existing and potential owners designers engineers subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Actively participate in client industry and community relations representing the company in a leadership capacity at professional organizations conferences trade shows and industry award ceremonies.
  • Distribute company information and thought leadership to clients business associations and community groups consistently and effectively.
  • Seek continuous feedback from project stakeholders to benchmark corporate performance against competitors; attend project progress meetings to remain aligned with ongoing operational dynamics.
  • Network with peer BD Directors and Managers to share best practices lead generations and industry insights.

Working Conditions

  • The majority of work is completed in a professional office environment.
  • Regular travel to client offices industry events or project meeting sites is required.

Education Experience & Qualifications

Must-Have Verification Requirements

  1. 4 to 6 years of dedicated sales and business development experience specifically within the Heavy Civil Construction industry.
  2. 10 years of total professional related experience preferred.
  3. Bachelors Degree in Business Marketing Communications Engineering or a related field.
  4. Must currently reside in Southern California or be willing to relocate to the region (relocation assistance provided).
