BASIC FUNCTION:

Operate a school bus in a safe and efficient manner to ensure the safety of passengers. This position requires continuous use of independent judgment. The essential functions as shown below represent only the key areas of responsibility; specific position requirements will vary depending on the needs of the Transportation Department.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Provide guidance and training to bus drivers and associates as directed.
  2. Operate the school bus in a safe effective and proficient
  3. Perform visual bus safety inspection at the start of each route.
  4. Comply with all pre-trip and post-trip procedures and expectations.
  5. Report all vehicle damage and/or repair items using established procedures and
  6. Ensure interior and exterior cleanliness and appearance of the school
  7. Maintain appropriate student behavior on the bus and report policy infractions as
  8. Assist in providing the necessary safeguards to prevent loss of or damage to property or failure of mechanical
  9. Maintain a Motor Vehicle Record that meets District guidelines.
  10. Assist in providing the necessary safeguards to prevent loss of or damage to property or failure of mechanical
  11. Assist in the inspection operation and use of specialized equipment for students with additional accommodations including wheelchairs safety vests etc.
  12. Complete Medicare
  13. Utilize a computer for District and Department email communications and online training
  14. Attend professional development.
  15. Adhere to District policies and Department work

ADDITIONAL ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (for every DMPS position):

  1. Attend work on a prompt and regular basis.
  2. Maintain confidentiality.
  3. Maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public students and other employees.
  4. Assist with other duties as may be assigned.

HIRING SPECIFICATIONS:


Required:

  1. Twenty (20) years of age or older.
  2. Ability to obtain Commercial Learners Permit (CLP) prior to hire.
  3. Ability to obtain Commercial Drivers License (CDL) within a 60-day period from date of hire.
  4. Working knowledge of city and school locations.
  5. Ability to use computer to take required online training.
  6. Effective communication skills.
  7. For internal candidates meets or better rating on employee evaluation criteria established by the district 10 or fewer days of absence during the past 12 months zero (0) incidents involving formal discipline on file and meets all other stated requirements of the job posting.
