GovFirst is seeking an experienced and safety-focused Bridge-Tunnel Lead Operations Crew Member to support operations in Hampton VA. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing contractor personnel coordinating daily operations supporting recruitment and training efforts ensuring contract compliance and maintaining safe and efficient bridge-tunnel operations in a 24/7 transportation environment.
Monitor the work of Bridge-Tunnel Operations (OBT) contractors to ensure quality performance and compliance with contract requirements.
Coordinate staffing needs with VDOT Operations Managers and Supervisors to ensure adequate coverage.
Develop employee work schedules and manage daily shift assignments.
Serve as the first-line supervisor for personnel issues including attendance callouts scheduling conflicts and shift coverage.
Allocate time during nights weekends holidays and early mornings to support a 24/7/365 operational environment.
Maintain regular communication with VDOT Hampton Roads Harbor Tunnel (HRHT) Control Rooms regarding staffing and operational needs.
Participate in recruiting activities including applicant sourcing resume review interviewing candidate selection onboarding and orientation.
Coordinate field training for newly hired personnel following classroom instruction.
Monitor employee performance and provide coaching to ensure operational readiness and compliance with company standards.
Ensure personnel receive regular briefings regarding company policies client requirements safety procedures and operational priorities.
Review employee timesheets performance evaluations and attendance records.
Process leave requests and assist with payroll-related documentation.
Maintain accurate employee personnel files and update contact information as needed.
Prepare activity reports progress reports and operational documentation for company management and client review.
Investigate employee accidents incidents complaints and workplace concerns and prepare reports for administrative review.
Ensure compliance with company policies client requirements safety standards and security procedures.
Serve as GovFirsts representative during high-impact events and emergency operations at the request of the client.
Maintain a visible presence throughout Control Rooms inspection booths crash houses and operational facilities.
Develop strong working relationships with VDOT personnel contractors and operations staff.
Represent the companys interests during meetings briefings and interactions with external stakeholders.
Respond to emergencies involving contract personnel and support facility safety security and access control.
Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors or the USF Senior Project Manager.
Minimum of two (2) to three (3) years of experience directing traffic conducting vehicle inspections and supporting roadway or transportation operations.
Strong leadership and supervisory skills with experience coordinating teams in a fast-paced environment.
Knowledge of traffic control operations roadway safety procedures and customer service best practices.
Ability to multitask prioritize assignments and respond effectively during emergency situations.
Familiarity with Hampton Roads interstate highways and local roadway systems.
Experience using Windows-based computer applications.
Experience using two-way radios and telephone communication systems.
General knowledge of vehicle mechanics and basic equipment operation.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Scheduling flexibility to support a 24/7/365 operational environment.
Field operations experience preferred.
Ability to meet the physical demands of roadway operations including prolonged standing walking and outdoor work.
High School Diploma or GED required.
Knowledge of traffic control operations and extensive customer service experience required.
Must be a U.S. Citizen.
Valid Virginia Drivers License in good standing required.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Fingerprint-based Criminal History Records Check (CHRC) required.
Pre-employment drug screening required.
Required Skills:
Education: High School Diploma or GED required. Coursework in carpentry shop mechanical drawing or general mathematics preferred. Experience & Skills: Minimum of 3 years of experience in building maintenance painting carpentry demolition or related trades. Knowledge of building maintenance techniques materials tools and equipment. Experience using hand tools power tools and maintenance equipment. Ability to perform carpentry painting repair and general maintenance tasks. Ability to conduct inspections and evaluate workmanship and quality. Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
