Role Summary:
- We are seeking a Senior Architect to join our Architecture group within the DTI. As a senior technical leader you will leverage your deep core banking domain expertise and strategic thinking skills to define guide and advance enterprise and platform architectures. Your role will involve designing scalable secure and resilient banking solutions across complex multi-system environments while influencing technology direction beyond a single product or team.
Responsibilities:
- Core Banking Architecture (Primary Focus)
- Lead architectural initiatives for core banking solutions including deposits (CASA) lending payments general ledger and customer/account management systems ensuring alignment with bank-grade security resiliency and regulatory standards.
- Design enterprise-wide architectures integrating core banking systems with:
- Payment platforms (ACH RTGS SWIFT ISO 20022)
- Digital channels (online/mobile banking)
- Data platforms and enterprise warehouses
- Middleware APIs and event-driven microservices ecosystems
- Define and drive core modernization strategies including:
- Legacy transformation
- Modular core decomposition
- API-first and microservices architectures
- Cloud adoption and hybrid models
- Architect hybrid integration patterns across legacy core systems and modern platforms using APIs ESB and event streaming.
- Ensure architecture supports:
- High availability and fault tolerance
- Transaction integrity and data consistency
- Performance and scalability requirements
- Emerging Technology & Blockchain (Secondary Focus)
- Contribute to architectural initiatives involving digital asset integration and distributed systems ensuring alignment with core banking architecture.
- Design integration patterns between core banking platforms and emerging technologies where applicable (e.g. digital asset processing settlement optimization).
- Provide guidance on how traditional banking systems coexist with emerging platforms ensuring operational and regulatory alignment.
- Evaluate technologies in the context of business value vs. complexity ensuring pragmatic adoption.
- Architecture Governance & Leadership
- Establish architectural guardrails and best practices across core banking and enterprise platforms to ensure long-term scalability interoperability and maintainability.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams across:
- Payments
- Lending
- Liquidity and settlements
- Customer onboarding and KYC
- Provide thought leadership to engineering teams and stakeholders on:
- Core banking evolution strategies
- Modern vs. legacy architecture trade-offs
- Adoption of emerging technologies in a regulated environment
- Define and enforce standards for:
- API design and integration
- Domain-driven design and service decomposition
- Security compliance and auditability
- Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science Information Technology Engineering or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in architecture roles with strong emphasis on:
- Core banking systems and enterprise architecture
- Large-scale banking transformation initiatives
- Deep experience with core banking platforms such as:
- Temenos Finacle Flexcube TCS BaNCS or equivalent
- Strong understanding of:
- Banking domains (deposits lending payments treasury)
- Payment and messaging standards (ISO 20022 SWIFT)
- Proven mastery of:
- Architectural patterns (microservices event-driven layered architecture)
- Cloud and modern engineering practices
- Non-functional requirements (performance resiliency scalability security)
- Exposure to emerging technologies (e.g. blockchain distributed systems) is a plus but not mandatory.
- Experience translating business strategy into technical architecture and driving cross-functional alignment.
- Strong understanding of regulatory and compliance requirements within financial institutions.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor architects and engineers and drive architectural consistency and innovation.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to advise senior leadership.

- Must be onsite at the client location in Charlotte NC at least 3 times per week
