Job Summary:

Culture and Institutional Excellence offers undergraduate and graduate students an opportunity to advance university programs and initiatives while building professional skills. The student intern will complete projects aligned with office priorities and when possible their educational interests and career goals.

Interns contribute their skills experiences and perspectives to efforts that foster an inclusive campus climate. They collaborate with campus and community partners support events and programs and provide essential day-to-day operational assistance.

About Cal Poly Maritime Academy:

Cal Poly Maritime Academy located in Vallejo California is the only degree-granting maritime academy on the West Coast and a nationally recognized public maritime university on the Solano Campus of California Polytechnic State University. Job Duties:

Community Development and Programming
  • Assist with the planning development logistics staffing and assessment of events programs services social activities trainings and other office initiatives.
  • Help cultivate an inclusive environment in which students faculty and staff feel welcomed and encouraged to engage and contribute.
  • Execute assigned programs and projects throughout the academic year using available budgets and implementation resources responsibly.
  • Track project progress and provide updates during staff meetings and individual check-ins.
Campus and Community Engagement
  • Develop collaborative relationships and serve as a liaison to campus and community partners committees student centers clubs organizations and departments.
  • Represent Culture and Institutional Excellence as a student ambassador at campus and community events while upholding office values and professional standards.
  • Connect community members with appropriate resources and seek guidance when a need falls outside the positions scope.
Office and Team Support
  • Attend required weekly intern meetings individual check-ins fall orientation a midyear retreat and educational or professional development workshops.
  • Provide reliable day-to-day support for office operations and shared facilities.
  • Communicate proactively about assignments scheduling conflicts shifting priorities and support needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Enrolled as a Cal Poly student during the academic year.
  • In good academic and judicial standing before and throughout employment.
  • Maintains a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.
  • Able to maintain a flexible schedule that may include evenings and weekends.
  • Demonstrates reliability sound judgment professionalism and willingness to learn.
  • Able to collaborate respectfully with people whose identities experiences and perspectives differ from their own.
  • Able to manage multiple responsibilities plan meet deadlines and adapt to changing priorities.
