Position Objective: The Biologist will provide support services to the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease within the National Institutes of Health.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Perform a wide range of complex procedures and techniques including gene cloning DNA purification protein purification cell culture immunological assay (ELISA ICS ELISPOT and FACS) and in vivo animal experiments. 3
• Assists with performing basic laboratory experiments and procedures
• Perform neutralization assays for multiple viruses that include influenza and HIV.
• Assist with the development of pseudo-virus production for multiple viruses that include influenza and HIV. 1
• Handle and process biological samples.
• Prepares organizes and maintains various lab samples supplies and equipment
• Evaluate monoclonal antibodies and immune sera for neutralization activity against multiple viruses that include influenza and HIV. 2
• Manage ordering and maintenance of supplies.
• Calibrate and operate a variety of laboratory instruments under GLP guidelines and follow SOPs to perform test analysis and other procedures.
• Assess the pharmacokinetic properties of monoclonal antibodies against various infectious disease pathogens like HIV-1 and influenza in mice and monkeys
• Conduct research including planning conducting experiments and data analysis.
• Interact with students post-doctoral fellows and non-doctoral research technicians on experimental design and laboratory-based methodologies.
• Maintain accurate daily records of experiments.

• Work products and documents related to assessing the pharmacokinetic properties of monoclonal antibodies against various infectious disease pathogens like HIV-1 and influenza.
• Work products and documents related to calibrating and operating a variety of laboratory instruments under GLP guidelines and follow SOPs to perform test analysis and other
• procedures.
• Work products and documents related to maintaining accurate daily records of
• experiments.

Basic Qualifications:

• Masters degree in a science-related discipline.
• Three (3) years of specialized experience plus a Bachelors degree is equivalent to a Masters degree.
• Minimum of eleven (11) years of experience in Molecular Biology Immunocytochemistry or a related field.
• Demonstrated strong research experience.
• Demonstrated expertise in basic scientific principles concepts and theories
• Computer skills to include MS Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with non-technical and technical staff
• Detail-oriented and possess strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects
