Job Summary
The Senior Ethicist role contributes to the mission and vision of FMOLHS by leading a regional approach to Ethics Services across assigned markets including ethics education and consultation coverage assigned hospitals ambulatory care sites clinic sites ministries and behavioral health services. Collaborates with Vice President of Ethics and Theology SVP Mission and senior and high-level leaders throughout the health system on a routine basis to support a wide range of initiatives in the delivery of Catholic healthcare to all the communities served.
Responsibilities
StrategyAlignment
Ensuresimplementation of strategiesalignedwithbestpracticestandardsforCatholicHealthEthicsandclinicalandorganizationalethics;
Leadsmultipleethicscommittees;
Leadsinitiatives for complianceandregulatory standardsrelatedtoethicsandpatientrights;Supports increasing complexity of ethics services including consultation demand partnerships and regulatory requirements across assigned regions.
Community Engagement
Engageswithinternalandexternalleadersprovidersmanagerspatientsandcommunitymembers.
Responsible for planningimplementingand maintainingprocessesforclinicalethicsconsultationorganizationalethicsdeliberationanddiscernmentethicseducationandethics-related-policydevelopmentandoutcomesforassigned regions.
UpholdStandards
WorksdirectlywiththeVice President of Ethics and Theologytoensurethatallserviceswithinassigned regions are aligned with theEthical and ReligiousDirectivesforCatholicHealthCareServicesandnationalstandardsforclinicalandCatholichealthcare ethics.
Supportsnationalethicsinitiatives as appropriatefor FMOLHS.
Collaboration
Providessupportandcollaboration withcontractedethicsproviders;educational and consultationsupporttograduatemedicaleducation;andon-boardingofnewprovidersasrequested.
Meetswiththelocalordinaryregularlyineach regionincollaborationwiththelocalmissionleader
and VP of Ethics and Theology andSVPofmissiontobuildandstrengthentherelationshipsoraddressconcernswhichmayarisebetweenthelocaldioceseandhealthministry.
Qualifications
3yearsexperienceinAcademicMedicalCenterincludingaworkingknowledgeoftheEthical&Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care ServicesandtheTeachingoftheRomanCatholicChurchDoctorateofPhilosophyorrelatedfieldpreferred.
