Job Summary

Introduction

Maryland529 consists of two active savings programs the Maryland Senator Edward College Investment Plan and the Maryland ABLE Program. The MarylandSenator Edward J. Kasemeyer College Investment Plan is designed to helpindividuals and families save for college in a tax-advantaged account. TheMaryland College Investment Plan offers a variety of investment options to suitaccount holders future education goals. Maryland ABLE provides people withdisabilities a method to save and invest without jeopardizing means testedbenefits and is responsible for educating people with disabilities theirfamilies and other stakeholders in the disability community about theeligibility criteria enrollment and account management process for MarylandABLE accounts. All programs under Maryland 529 are overseen by the MarylandState Treasurers Office.

Main Purpose of Job
The Maryland State Treasurers Office is seeking an energetic and passionate advocate to educate and deliver information in English and/or Spanish about the Maryland College Investment Plan with a heavy focus in outreach to Hispanic communities. This position will serve as the ambassador for Maryland 529 to market the Maryland College Investment Plan and will conduct presentations for events with an audience that speak English and/or Spanish. This position will conduct public relations activities for Maryland 529 such as participation at assigned conferences expos and community fairs; and will provide clear and concise presentations/information workshops for school systems employers and service provider agencies. This position will distribute informational or promotional Maryland 529 materials in accordance with the Maryland 529 program. This position serves as an ambassador to promote Maryland 529 programs throughout Maryland including the following counties: Baltimore City Prince Georges Howard and other surrounding counties.

This is a contractualpart-time position limited to 200 hours per year within the StateTreasurers Office. The incumbent will receive the schedule for conferencesand outreach activities in advance. Hours will vary depending on the setactivities per month.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: Six years of experience in public information public relations journalism or other related experience in publicity or promotional work.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university with at least 30 semester credit hours in one or more of the following subjects: English journalism public relations writing or other similar and related areas of study and two years of experience in public information public relations journalism or other related experience in publicity or promotional work for the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces militaryservice experience as a commissioned officer in public affairs specialist classification or public affairs specialty codes in the information and arts field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Fluent speaker in English and Spanish.
  • Experience presenting in both large and small groups in English and Spanish.
  • Experience as an ambassador for a program company or product.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Candidates will be subject to a backgroundinvestigation to include driving credit and criminal history. Employees inthis classification may be assigned duties which require travel to off-sitelocations to attend promotional events. Employees assigned such dutieswill be required to make travel arrangements to attend the off-site events inthe central Maryland area with equipment to set up at the promotional event.
