TITLE: World Language Teacher

POSITION SUMMARY:

To motivate each pupil to develop competencies knowledge and skills in aurally comprehending speaking reading and writing the Spanish language in accordance with each pupils ability; to interpret to pupils the culture of the countries where Spanish is spoken; to discover and develop special talents of pupils in Spanish communication.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Teaches skills and knowledge in the Spanish language to secondary pupils utilizing the course of study adopted by the School Committee and other appropriate learning activities. Modern foreign language teachers (Spanish) teach aural comprehension speaking reading and writing.
2. Develops lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with basic instructional philosophy.
3. Provides learning experiences that develop the basic communication skills utilizing cassette recorders and other electronic equipment as appropriate.
4. Provides individualized and small-group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
5. Instructs pupils in safe operation of electronic equipment used in language instruction and makes minor adjustments and requests repairs as required.
6. Develops pupil understanding and appreciation of culture of countries where Spanish is spoken.
7. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly productive classroom environment.
8. Evaluates each pupils progress in aural comprehension speaking reading and writing the Spanish language in relationship to the level being taught.
9. Communicates with parents and school counselors on pupil progress.
10. Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in helping pupils solve health attitude and learning problems.
11. Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs.
12. Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the School Department and/or in self-selected professional growth activities such as foreign language workshops.
13. Be a positive member of the school community
14. Assumes other general related responsibilities as may be assigned by the School Principal
15. Adheres to the adopted policies of the Bellingham School Committee.

SKILLS/ABILITY:

1. Demonstrated ability to read write understand and speak the Spanish language.

CERTIFICATES LICENSES and/or DEGREE REQUIREMENTS:

1. Appropriate Massachusetts Teacher Licensure.
2. Bachelors Degree Required. Masters Degree Preferred.
3. MA DESE Certification: Foreign Language: Spanish Pre-K 6 & 5-12

SALARY: As per Basic Teachers Salary Schedule

CLASSIFICATION: (AFSCME BTA Singleton or Non-Union)

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

You are required to be physically capable of escorting students from the building in case of a practice drill or emergency situation in a safe and timely fashion.

Must be able to move about the classroom and have the ability to bend sit or stand frequently.
