Behavioral Health Assistant

• Collaborates with the multidisciplinary treatment team to support patient care in alignment with the treatment model of the unit.

• Administers prescribed nursing interventions under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN).

• Collects and documents patient data including obtaining vital signs as directed by RN.

• Assists with the transportation of patients throughout the hospital.

• Provides support with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as toileting hygiene physical transfers and cleaning up bodily fluids as needed.

• Delivers comfort measures including patient positioning and providing additional blankets or pillows.

• Ensures patient safety through the use of ordered restraints fall prevention strategies and environmental hazard checks.

• Applies correct body mechanics during patient positioning transfers and ambulation.

• Performs basic clinical tasks such as EKGs pulse oximetry placement and point-of-care lab testing as directed by RN.

• Assists with the discharge process including reinforcing discharge instructions provided by the RN.

• Communicates clearly and professionally with patients families EMS and hospital staff.

• Maintains a therapeutic and safe environment within the behavioral health milieu.

• Accurately documents significant behavioral observations and interactions in the patients electronic medical record (EPIC) to support treatment progress.

Education:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Training or coursework in behavioral health field preferred.

Experience:

• One year of clinical experience in a behavioral health setting or related experience required; two years preferred.
• Acute care experience preferred.

Skills:

• Able to work in a fast-paced environment with ability to prioritize multiple assignments.
• Strong interpersonal organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Keyboard skills and ability to navigate electronic systems applicable to job functions.

• BLS for Provider certification from the American Heart Association required.
