About the Opportunity
Booker T. Washington Academy Elementary (BTWA ES) campus is seeking a full-time Behavioral Interventionist (BI) to join our inclusive equity-centered team. As our BI at BTWA ES you will work closely with the school leadership team and staff to help design and implement targeted behavior supports and interventions that foster positive student outcomes both academically and socially. You will also serve as the point person for crisis-intervention and acute discipline issues ensuring timely restorative responses.
Youll collaborate with teachers families and external partners to create data-driven behavior plans lead restorative practices and build a school-wide culture where every scholar feels safe respected and motivated to learn. This hands-on role offers the chance to innovate advocate and refine systems that support K4 students in developing self-regulation social skills and resilience.
Key Responsibilities of the Role
As our School Behavior Interventionist you will be primarily responsible for:
Conducting functional behavior assessments (FBAs) and develop individualized Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) aligned with scholars needs
Providing direct small-group and one-on-one behavioral support to students with chronic or acute behavior challenges
Serving as the primary crisis-intervention specialist for acute behavioral issues
Leading and convening the school-wide Behavior Support Team (BST) and participate in the SEL Team
Collaborating with classroom teachers and school leaders to implement planning and execution strategies that integrate positive behavior interventions and supports (PBIS)
Modeling and coaching evidence-based behavior management techniques for staff during classroom observations and coaching cycles
Collecting analyzing and reporting behavior datatracking office referrals in-school suspensions bus behavior incidents and attendanceto inform instructional adjustments and stakeholder communication
Facilitating restorative circles conflict resolution sessions peer mediation and social-emotional learning workshops for scholars and staff
Partnering with families school counselors/social workers and external service providers to ensure consistency across home and school environments
Ensuring that hallways common areas and bus pick-up/drop-off zones reinforce safe and positive school culture
Maintaining a highly visible presence by proactively circulating through classrooms hallways and communal spaces to support students and staff
Qualifications of the Ideal Candidate

Required Qualifications
Bachelors degree in education or special education psychology social work or a related field is required.
Minimum of 2 years experience implementing behavior interventions in an elementary school or comparable setting
Demonstrated expertise in conducting FBAs developing BIPs and using data to drive decision-making relating to behavior intervention and support initiatives.
Preventive Management Training (PMT) certification or willingness to obtain
Demonstrated commitment to educational equity youth development social-emotional learning restorative practices and culturally responsive pedagogy
Ability to create a school/class environment in which students feel safe supported and challenged to engage deeply in meaningful work
A strong sense of reflection and personal accountability for student growth achievement and experience.

Preferred Qualifications
3 years of special education experience in urban or charter school settings
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) certification or BCBA credential
Experience in urban or charter school environments
Familiarity with Connecticut PBIS frameworks and compliance requirements
Background in adult/teacher coaching and support and/or delivering professional development on behavior strategies to adult learners
