Job Summary

TITLE: Teacher Behavior Intervention Special Education

Working in ourStructured Education for Alternate Learning Styles (SEALS) classroom

JOB DESCRIPTION:

To create a flexible program favorable to learning and personal growth for the student in the least restrictive environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Arizona PreK-12 Teaching Certificate or Arizona Professional Non-Teaching Certificate.
  2. Arizona Special EducationTeacher certification(preferred not required)
  3. Minimum of two (2) years instructional experience in a school setting (preferred)
  4. Training or related experience in counseling psychology or social work (preferred)
  5. Knowledge of special education laws procedures practices materials equipment and compliance standards required to provide appropriate learning experiences for special education students. Good knowledge of the nature and effects of the impairment(s) in all areas of disability
  6. Ability to assess needs develop and implement the IEP and evaluate outcomes in specialty
  7. Ability to coordinate activities with related and specialist staff
  8. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers parents and the community; excellent human relations skills; skill in both oral and written communication; ability to work in multicultural environment with diverse population of students staff and parents
  9. May be required to control certain behavior(s) through physical restraint; therefore must possess a degree of physical strength and dexterity
  10. Maintain current NCI First Aid and CPR certification
  11. Computer proficiency in district designated computer hardware and software including Microsoft Office MET and IEP software programs and other relevant software

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Implement Behavior Modification program with SEALS students at site.
  • Supervise therapeutic time-out with SEALS students at site.
  • May chair weekly building SEALS team meetings.
  • Maintain accurate records for documentation of student progress and for compliance with district federal and state guidelines.
  • Facilitate positive interaction between parents of students and school staff as well as communication with parents about behavior management interventions.
  • Act as a school liaison to coordinate efforts of SEALS staff administration regular education teachers counselors social workers and psychologists at the building level.
  • Attend plan conduct and/or participate in all necessary training activities and department meetings.
  • May be required to participate in students meetings that may occur beyond the staffs work assignment schedule.
  • Follow state law and district policy with cases involving child abuse neglect.
  • Provide on-going consultation and support to teachers and teams in the development design and implementation of Functional Behavioral Assessments and Positive Behavior Intervention Plans for students experiencing difficulties.
  • Demonstrate willingness to be flexible and creative to meet individual student needs.
  • Communicate with parents through conferences and other means to discuss pupils progress and interpret the school program.
  • Consult with staff members regarding interventions and accommodations for students.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
