POSITION DESCRIPTION:

This is anexciting time to join team is commissioning the recently upgradedbeamline that willprofoundly increase capacity and dramatically expand capability for challenging research a member of the IMCA-CAT team youwill be an integral part of thesecommissioningactivitiesprovide technical support for equipment and experimentsconduct experimentsfor pharmaceutical research projectsmanage samples for experimentsand contribute to innovativetechnicaldevelopments that expand the experiment willwork closely withIMCACAT colleagues in an inclusiveand respectfulenvironment andwill beexpected totakeinitiative and contributetothe team effort.

On any given day youwill do one ormoreof these things:

• Maintainmonitorand troubleshootbeamlinesupportequipment including liquid nitrogen dewars(shipping staging storage and supply) and hardware associated with sample management.

• Assistwiththemaintenance of beamline equipment.

• Manage organize andmaintainwork areas tools and supplies.

• Conducthigh-resolution single-crystal protein X-ray diffractionexperiments in support ofdrug discovery research effortsat both IMCA-CAT andavarietyofexternalsynchrotronsources.

• Support auto-mode experimentsincludingweekly on-call and monthly weekend assignments.

• Manageincoming and outgoingsamples andshipments.

• Contribute tothedevelopment and implementation of technologies that expand the experiment envelope.

• Contribute to the development ofefficient protocols for accelerating data acquisition while enhancing data security.

• Collaboratively developautomatedmethodsforacquiringquality data from challenging samples.

• Engagein the technical development of new strategies for ultra-high throughput.

• Collaborate withtheteam onstrategicallyaligned research and development projects.

• Communicate with researchers and present at meetings.

• Providegeneral supportfor experiments and facility development.

DESIRED SKILLS and EXPERIENCE:

• BS/BA in atechnical or engineering-related field.

• Outstandingtechnical skills.

• Experience with high vacuum systems electrical systems motors controllers and cryogenic systems.

• Highly collaborativeandteam-orientedapproach to conducting work troubleshooting andsolving problems.

• Experience implementing R&D projects includingdemonstratedability to have effective interaction and good working relationships with scientists technical support staff and vendors.

• Effectivewritten and oral communicationskills including drafting documents and making brief presentations.

• Exceptional originalityand attention toquality detail and accuracy.

• Deeply proactive approach to meeting and exceeding goals.

• Ability to routinely lift racks of samples (5lbs) baskets of samples in liquid nitrogen (15lbs) and shipping dewars (up to 35lbs).

• Ability to meet requirements for site access to Argonne National Laboratory.
