AY2627 Classroom Aide Literacy Pittsburgh (Work-Study Required)

This position is a community service work-study position off campus and is paid at $15/hour.

Interns at Literacy Pittsburgh support the agency missionof Better Lives Through Learning by serving students with goals of improvingtheir English reading writing and math skills. Interns make a meaningfulimpact while building professional skills as they work with a diverse range ofadult students and colleagues develop lesson plans and materialsandgain instructional experiencethrough one-on-one and small-group instruction.

Literacy Intern

Theintern will be matched to teach tutor or serve as a classroom aide forstudents from our English Language Learning (ELL) adult basic education(reading writing and math) and/or GED/High School Equivalency (HSE) addition to instruction intern responsibilities include lessonplanning/prep administrative tasks (e.g. reporting on attendance and studentprogress) and completing training/professional development related to the may also choose a focus area in addition to teaching planning and administrativeduties in alignment with agency needs and individual interests. The desired internwill work with the manager of our intern program to work out the details of theinternship including the specific schedule and responsibilities.

CandidateRequirements:

Mustbe authorized towork in the United States.
Must be currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree.
Demonstrated commitment toLiteracy Pittsburghs values.
Attends training provided by Literacy Pittsburgh.
Past experiencewith teaching and/or working with diverse populationsa plus.

CompensationTimeline and Schedule:

$15/hour for10 hours/week for up to 150 hours total
Internshipstarts around theweek of8/24/26 and concludes by 12/22/26.
Literacy Pittsburgh classes typically meet either on Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday each week for two hours each class session. Classes are offered in the morning (e.g. 10am-12pm) afternoon (e.g. 1-3pm) or evening (e.g. 5:30-7:30pm). Classes may be online or in-person (typically at our Downtown Center location). Intern availability should ideally be able to accommodate class times within this framework.
