Job Summary

Reports to: Digital Business Process Manager

Department: IT Management

Position Summary:

The Automation Support Technician is responsible for preventative maintenance correction or repair of industrial systems and automation equipment. This includes definition documentation and establishment of maintenance schedules and procedures. This role works cross functionally with outside vendors and internal departments to ensure that automation equipment performs reliably.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

The position does not have supervisory responsibility.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide support for the operation of automation equipment critical to Distribution Center (DC) Operations.
  • Identify maintenance related equipment opportunities and execute existing/implement new procedures and schedules to mitigate system downtime or failures.
  • Utilization of software to monitor manage and troubleshoot equipment and/or system performance.
  • Provide operational/production support to DC Operations through triage or problem solving to remove obstacles related to integrated equipment.
  • Perform diagnostics and analysis to identify and resolve defects errors or deficiencies liaising directly with automation vendors and/or providers for solutions.
  • Perform preventative maintenance of equipment adhering to documented processes and procedures.
  • Accountable for accurate and timely ordering receipt and management of critical spare parts and other parts and supplies necessary to maintain equipment.
  • Ensure timely shipment of parts or equipment for repair or replacement.
  • Manage security and access to the maintenance area.
  • Perform and document work performed and log work in defined database(s) or electronic filing systems.
  • Assist with and/or perform and ensure firmware or software updates are completed.
  • Perform cleaning of areas that are vital to safe and reliable operation of equipment on regularly scheduled timeframes.
  • Maintain storage organization and cleanliness of tools and equipment used for repair or calibration of equipment
  • Participate in seminars and other training as required.
  • Assist in the establishment and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Work in a team environment.
  • Promote and maintain a clean and safe work environment by complying with procedures policies training and regulations.
  • Ensure established policies and procedures are followed.
  • Participate in continuous improvement project team activities.
  • Must be available to respond to production issues/outages and needs outside of normal scheduled shift hours or when necessary for upgrade or project related activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience/Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • General knowledge of electrical systems including control panel components and robotics is preferred.
  • Aptitude and willingness to achieve certifications.
  • Minimum of 3 years of direct experience in maintenance of industrial systems/equipment including Preventative/Corrective Maintenance or repair is
  • One or more of the following competencies preferred: Distribution Automation Integrated systems or Similar Background.
  • Valid Drivers License required.
  • Powered Industrial Truck License required. Training is provided if needed.
  • Must be comfortable working at heights up to 36 feet.

  • Ability to proactively and effectively communicate (clear and concise) through writing speaking active listening and presentation. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and other job-related equipment and software.
  • Ability to select and use the appropriate hand tool for specific tasks to avoid injury or damage to materials.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and sound judgment.
  • Ability to approach conflicts with vendors customers and colleagues in a constructive manner.
  • Ability to read analyze and interpret data.
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills.
  • Excellent organization skills and detail-oriented with exceptional critical thinking multi-tasking and problem-solving abilities.

  • Ability to work independently within a team and cross-functionally with other departments/stakeholders.
  • Ability to develop and foster business relationships.
  • Willing to participate in Company and Vendor designated training.
  • Must have knowledge of and comply with the policies and procedures contained in the company handbook.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
  • Must be able to practice safe work habits.

Physical Demands:

This is an office type position and a general warehouse position that requires sitting standing walking stooping kneeling and use of hands continuously for eight hours. This position requires lifting/moving up to 50 pounds. This position requires extended amounts of time walking and climbing stairs. This position requires frequent work time beyond an eight-hour shift/40-hour week including shift rotation and weekends. This position requires the operation of basic office equipment.
