Our current hybrid approach requires staff to work onsite a minimum of two days each week every Tuesday and Wednesday Hybrid staff are also welcome to come in additional days each week or may be asked to come in on other days by their manager.

DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

The World is a one-hour nationally distributed weekday radio public affairs program co-produced by GBH and PRX. The show offers a mix of news features interviews and music from around the globe developed specifically for an American audience. The Worlds companion website offers a similar mix of news and features along with slideshows videos blog posts podcasts and interactive graphics that expand on the radio content. The World and use social media and other relevant tools to maximize user engagement and enhance the user experience.

JOB OVERVIEW

The World Engineer works closely with Editors journalists producers and other engineers at GBH and PRX and throughout the public radio system to ensure the production and delivery of high-quality audio in a timely and precise manner. The World Engineers work in broadcast studios within a networked newsroom to provide technical support and guidance in a fast-paced deadline driven production environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Engineering live broadcasts of The World digital audio mixing restoration and repair of audio managing show rollovers and uplinks troubleshooting technical problems and collaborating with Editors Reporters and Producers in a variety of settings.

SKILL SET

• Strong imagination and a willingness to experiment are essential as well as an ability to be genuinely innovative.
• Must have substantial board operating experience in digital mixing experience with operating and managing a broadcast board during a live broadcast clock-driven current affairs program a track record in the creative use of sound and the ability to work calmly under stress on the production of a fast-paced dynamic news program.
• Familiarity with the Adobe Audition and SADiE multitrack mixing platforms as well as the use of iZotope products are highly valued.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelors Degree or equivalent work experience. Minimum of three years experience in the production and broadcast of a live daily deadline-driven news program. Prior technical experience with audio production (broadcast live sound reinforcement music recording theatre post-production ENG) are a plus.
