Job Summary

For over 125 years Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens has been providing quality social services to the neighborhoods of Brooklyn and Queens and currently offers 160-plus programs and services for children youth adults seniors and those struggling with mental the direction of the General Counsel Office of Catholic Charities the Attorney shall be responsible for responding to the legal needs of the Agency and its various corporate affiliates. Responsibilities also may include handling a variety of legal matters for nonprofit organizations including entity formation corporate governance tax-exemption issues and compliance with fundraising and political activities regulations. and ensuring the Agencys compliance with various laws rules and regulations as a part of the Agencys Corporate Compliance AND RESPONSIBILITIESAdvise on entity formation and corporate governance for nonprofit federal and state tax-exemption compliance with fundraising and political activities and review contracts and general business law for complex cases involving Labor Law Disabilities with specialists technical experts and other and implements the settlement of revises and approves studies and reports on the effects of city state and federal legislation and documentation investigate and prepare reports and settlement recommendations regarding the relative strength of cases and evaluates the appropriateness of internal settlement evidence and assists in researching at pre-hearing conferences; reviews administrative state and federal case law and implications for settlement revises and approves stipulations of preliminary reports statistical data and recommendations pertaining to Team Leader preparation and presentation and settlement of case assignments for ten day letters due process proceedings and with corporate non-profit legal or co-lead confidential investigations and advocacy projects regarding students with brain injury including conducting interviews of the families witnesses and service providers reviewing and analyzing extensive documentary evidence and performing other investigatory and maintaining effective working relationships with local state and federal agencies and organizationsTravel within New York State and occasionally outside of duties as position requires a juris doctor degree a current license to practice law in the State of New years of relevant legal in working with 501(c)(3) 501(c)(4) and 501(c)(6) oral and written communication attention to detail and organizational communication and interpersonal to understand provisions of applicable laws and legal research and writing to conduct research and analyses of pertinent legal to analyze complex problems and develop creative communication skills sufficient to conduct investigations to actively promote legal policy and legislative developments at federal state and local government levels and to develop and conduct trainings and to represent clients in legal hearings meetings negotiations or administrative working with or sensitivity to individuals with to work independently with appropriate ability to take a leadership role in case planning or project of laws rights and services as they pertain to people with disabilities and/or direct representation of people with Spanish speaking preferredBENEFITSWe offer competitive salary and excellent benefits including:* Generous time off (Vacation/ Personal Days/ Sick Days/ Paid Holidays annually)* Medical* Dental* Vision* Retirement Savings with Agency Match* Transit* Flexible Spending Account* Life insurance* Public Loan Forgiveness Qualified Employer* Training Series and other additional voluntary more information on our organization please visit our website at: EOE/AA.
