English Instructor
Independence Community College (ICC) is seeking applications for the position of English Instructor for its English department to start in August 2026. ICC is a rural residential community college in southeast Kansas that is dedicated to continuous quality improvement and is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.
Position Summary
The college is seeking a full-time tenure-track faculty member to teach courses offered by the English department. Composition instructors teach 30 credit hours or more per academic year of composition and literature courses.
Qualifications
A Masters Degree in English or appropriate equivalent degree is required.A minimum of thirty (30) upper division undergraduate credit hours in English courses and at least 18 credit hours of English at the graduate level is required. The applicants degree must be from an accredited institution of higher learning recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Preferred qualifications include three or more years of community college teaching experience developmental teaching experience and experience working with a diverse student body.
Position Information
This position will be paid in accordance with and is eligible to be included in the bargaining agreement between Independence Community College and the Independence Community College Faculty Association. Instructor affiliation with the ICC Faculty Association is voluntary.
Primary Responsibilities
Instruct students in English Composition using approved course outcome guides developed by college-wide subject area Faculty; assess student performance in these courses.
1. Provide classroom instruction to students for composition developmental English and/or literature courses.
2. Maintain regularly scheduled office hours to facilitate students learning needs.
3. Remain current in the field through a variety of professional development activities.
4. Attend and participate in college-wide campus/center division department and program meetings and activities.
5. Serve on Subject Area Curriculum Committees and/or such other College committees as may be assigned.
6. Attend in-service meetings.
7. Provide certification lists and post student progress reports and grades on time in conjunction with Registrar and Financial Aid requirements.
8. Comply with published College Policies and Procedures.
9. Perform other related duties as applicable and as outlined in the Faculty Negotiated Agreement.

1. Assist in the recruitment of students.
2. Provide registration advising and guidance assistance to students.
3. Provide professional assistance to staff and students.
4. Compile and/or research data as may be assigned.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the English Instructor position. 1. Position generally requires light work with occasional lifting of up to (30) pounds or more carrying supplies equipment. The job requires varying amounts of sitting standing and walking.
2. This position requires the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
3. The ability to communicate clearly with small or large groups of people with an excellent comprehension of the English language is essential.
4. Work is generally performed in an indoor setting using a commonly used technology and resources to facilitate.

Once the deadline has passed and an initial screening has been conducted all semi-finalists for the position may be asked to submit additional information for evaluation.
Interview Process
Finalist asked to interview with Independence Community College will be asked to grade a sample student essay make a 15- to 30-minute presentation on writing and composition. Additionally he or she will be meeting with the hiring committee. Please provide your own rubrics or supplemental materials if applicable.

Independence Community College (ICC)is a two-year educational institution accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. It was established in 1925 as grades 13 and 14 of the Independencepublic school 1967 Independence Community College legally separated from the school district. Construction of the new community college on a 68 acre campus formerly the Independence Country Club began in 1969. Classes at the new site began in September 1970. ICC campus is now home to the Academic Building Fine Arts Building Student Union Cessna Learning Center Field House Administration BuildingWilliam Inge Center for the Artsfitness center athletic practice fields disc golf course 96-bed multi-structure living complex and a 200 bedresidence hall.
By renovating a donated building in 2010 we expanded our college to include ICC West (2615 West Main Street). This campus is located on the west side of Independence and is home to our technical programs: Allied Health Cosmetology and GED/ renovations were completed in 2012 to accomodate our newest program Veterinary Technology. This state-of-the-art facility includes animal wards a classroom lab surgery pharmacy prep roomsmall animal treatment food prep grooming and radiology.
ICC also maintains presence downtown through the ICC Foundation office and by partnering with the Independence Business Resource Center.
Currently our educational and support programming includes 35programs of studyfor Associates of Arts and/or Science degrees 11programs of study for Certificate completionStudent Support ServicesUpward Bound mens and womens athletic programs and a variety ofcampus organizations and activities.
