Job Summary

Reporting to and under the general direction of the University Honors Program Director the incumbent serves as Associate Director of Leadership and Engagement and manages all student leadership programs and initiatives focused on enhancing UHP student experiences and professional development. Participates in setting department goals organizing major events such as symposia graduation and collaborative programming. Maintains quality relationships between on-campus departments and the community. Oversees co-curricular engagement and advising by connecting with all college-based advising teams and supporting honors advising as needed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Engagement Programs - Create develop and implement large and small scale programs series programs and creative practices to develop leadership skills and community involvement on and off campus. Create and implement programs and initiatives that meet the needs of beginning and advanced student leaders. Expand leadership professional development and civic engagement opportunities for UHP students through collaboration with university departments and off campus organizations.
  • Oversight of Advising Activities & Workshops - Manage advising activities and workshops for UHP students in collaboration with the UHP Academic Advising Lead. Ensure that students observe university deadlines and complete their degree and UHP requirements. Provide independent student advisement and guidance for the incoming Honors cohort at Student Orientation Advising and Registration (SOAR) as well as for the entire Honors student population. Serve on the University Advising Council (UAC).
  • Programmatic Planning Development and Implementation - Assist the Honors Director in identifying areas for Program enhancement and developing strategies for the implementation of programmatic changes. Assist the Honors Director In shaping and communicating to the Honors student population Program guidelines and ensuring understanding and compliance.

Salary placement is determined by the education experience and qualifications the candidate brings to the position internal equity and the hiring departments fiscal resources.

  • Hiring Range: The hiring range for this position is $6320 - $6432 per month commensurate with candidates education experience skills and training.
  • CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $6320 - $9014 per month.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

The ideal candidate possesses extensive academic counseling experience and a demonstrated ability to effectively advise a diverse population of high-achieving students across all academic disciplines. They are skilled at analyzing complex student needs identifying solutions and providing guidance that supports successful completion of the UHP Program. The candidate exhibits strong leadership and supervisory abilities including training mentoring overseeing outreach efforts and managing the work of others. They have experience evaluating and selecting students from competitive pools of high school and community college applicants while consistently adhering to all University policies procedures and guidelines related to safety civility information security and non-discrimination. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills are essential along with the ability to build and maintain professional collaborative relationships with students faculty staff and community members. The ideal candidate is proficient in data entry database management and Excel with demonstrated experience organizing and archiving critical information on shared drives as well as familiarity with PeopleSoft and CSLink. Additionally they can lead Leadership and Engagement programming leverage social media to foster student engagement and belonging and exemplify a student-centered collaborative leadership approach that promotes academic success inclusion and community building.

Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies procedures and guidelines including but not limited to safety civility information security and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the universitys commitment to a vision of excellence.

Education and Experience

Equivalent to a bachelors degree with upper or graduate coursework in counseling and guidance human relations or related fields and four years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas required.

Masters degree in Higher Education Social Sciences or Liberal Arts preferred.

Demonstrated University Honors Program expertise preferred.

Academic Advising experience preferred.
