New York Institute of Technology seeks an Associate Bursar located at the Old Westbury campus.

New York Institute of Technology seeks an Associate Bursar to support the administration and collection of student accounts payment processing and account reconciliation. This position is responsible for reviewing student tuition and fee accounts communicating with students regarding outstanding balances and payment obligations and implementing strategies to reduce delinquency financial risk and institutional liability.

The Associate Bursar provides comprehensive customer service and account support to students at the Old Westbury location including students affiliated with New York Tech NYITCOM and Global campuses. The position works closely with campus partners to ensure student accounts are accurate payments and financial aid are properly applied and account issues are resolved in a timely manner.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provide professional responsive and solution-oriented customer service to students regarding billing payments account balances and financial obligations.
  • Make and receive telephone calls and respond to student inquiries through email and other communication channels.
  • Review student accounts to ensure all eligible financial aid has been properly awarded posted and applied.
  • Monitor and review payment plans communicate upcoming payment deadlines and send reminders regarding payments due.
  • Respond to inquiries related to account balances late payment fees payment plans due dates refunds and other billing matters.
  • Collaborate with the Registrar Financial Aid Academic Departments and other campus partners to resolve issues involving grades withdrawals enrollment dates registration changes and other matters that may affect student account balances.
  • Follow up on account corrections adjustments credits and other transactions to ensure they are processed accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Monitor student accounts for accuracy of charges payments financial aid coding and other account activity.
  • Work closely with the Registrar Collections Security Library Financial Aid Counseling & Wellness Housing Admissions and other departments to support timely and accurate cohort and student account processing.
  • Assist management with student communication initiatives including text email and telephone campaigns related to payments balances deadlines and delinquent accounts.
  • Support Bursar operations at the New York City campus as needed including orientation open house graduation and other special events as well as coverage during staff absences and high-volume registration periods.
  • Reconcile daily banking and payment reports and collaborate closely with the Accounting Office to ensure accurate financial reporting and transaction processing.
  • Assist with internal and external audits system testing process improvements and implementation of system or policy changes.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable federal and New York State laws regulations institutional policies and financial aid and student account requirements
  • Apply knowledge of collections practices compliance requirements and account receivables processes to support effective delinquency management.
  • Monitor delinquent accounts and take appropriate action to reduce outstanding balances and prevent past-due accounts from progressing to default.
  • Maintain confidentiality and safeguard sensitive student and financial information in accordance with institutional policies and applicable regulations.
  • Perform other duties and special projects assigned by Bursar management.
Qualifications
  • A bachelors degree is required; a masters degree is preferred.
  • Collections banking or university experience is preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills including clear and strong written and verbal skills and strong attention to detail is required.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Student Accounts or Financial Aid Accounting Banking or Collection experience preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office PeopleSoft experience preferred.
  • Excellent customer service experience is required.
  • Strong attention to detail organizational and analytical skills are required.
  • This position can spend time based at either the NYC or Long Island campuses and may be eligible for some remote work inline with NY Tech policy.
  • This position may require some night and/or holiday/weekend hours.
