Assistant/Associate Professor - Geriatric and Cardiopulmonary Physical Therapy
The Hanover College Doctor of Physical Therapy Program (DPT) invites applications for a full-time Core Faculty member with expertise in geriatric physical therapy cardiopulmonary care and complex patient management to join an innovative and collaborative academic community. This faculty position offers an exciting opportunity to provide curricular leadership in aging adult physical therapy cardiopulmonary rehabilitation chronic disease management and the care of medically complex patients across the continuum of care within a program that combines the flexibility of online learning with the hands-on engagement of immersive laboratory and simulation experiences.
The successful candidate will serve as a primary content expert in geriatric and aging adult physical therapy while contributing to related curricular areas including cardiopulmonary care acute and subacute rehabilitation hospital-based physical therapy falls prevention older adult health and wellness lifespan patient management clinical reasoning and evidence-based practice. Working within Hanover Colleges hybrid educational model the faculty member will engage students through asynchronous learning synchronous instruction immersive laboratory experiences simulation and integrated clinical case applications. The faculty member will also collaborate closely with colleagues to promote vertical and horizontal integration of content across the curriculum including coordination with neurologic and other faculty to support comprehensive management of older adults with neurologic medically complex and multisystem conditions.
This position is designed for a clinician-educator who desires to maintain contemporary engagement in clinical practice while contributing to the education clinical reasoning and professional formation of future physical therapists through collaborative teaching student advising and success initiatives engagement with regional clinical partners scholarship service program assessment accreditation activities and continuous quality improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as lead faculty for aging adult physical therapy coursework within the DPT curriculum.
- Serve as lead faculty for cardiopulmonary physical therapy coursework within the DPT curriculum.
- Develop deliver assess and continuously improve courses laboratory experiences simulations and assessments.
- Support integration of healthy aging chronic disease management wellness prevention and cardiopulmonary rehabilitation concepts throughout the curriculum.
- Support Hanover Colleges innovative hybrid educational model through excellence in online instruction synchronous engagement and immersive laboratory experiences.
- Serve as academic advisor mentor and coach to support student learning professional development and success.
- Collaborate with faculty to evaluate program outcomes and utilize assessment data to improve curriculum quality and student achievement.
- Participate in CAPTE accreditation activities program assessment initiatives and continuous quality improvement processes.
- Maintain scholarly activity consistent with faculty rank and workload expectations.
- Participate in program college professional and community service activities.
- Contribute to admissions recruitment orientation and student success initiatives.
- Travel to onsite laboratory immersions and participate in program-related activities.
Minimum Qualifications
- Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT/tDPT) or earned terminal academic doctorate in a discipline appropriate for teaching responsibilities
- Current ABPTS Geriatric Clinical Specialist (GCS) certification (required)
- Minimum of three years of contemporary clinical practice in geriatric physical therapy and/or cardiopulmonary physical therapy
- Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching student success and inclusive educational practices
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students faculty staff and external stakeholders
- Licensed or eligible for physical therapist licensure in Indiana
Preferred Qualifications
- Academic doctorate (PhD EdD DHSc DSc or equivalent)
- Experience teaching within a CAPTE-accredited physical therapist education program
- Experience with hybrid online or accelerated educational models
- Experience with curriculum development program assessment and accreditation activities
- Evidence of scholarly productivity related to geriatrics cardiopulmonary physical therapy healthcare education or related areas
- Experience with simulation-based education interprofessional education shared teaching responsibilities clinical education or integrated case-based instruction
