CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Prepare maintain and restore assigned athletic fields including performing the hands-on activities fundamental to natural grass sports field care for baseball softball soccer and football surfaces.

2. Serve as the primary technical resource for the maintenance and management of baseball and softball playing surfaces including natural grass clay mounds home plate areas warning tracks and related field components.

3. Evaluate turfgrass soil clay irrigation drainage wear disease and pest conditions and use professional judgment to determine appropriate corrective actions.

4. Develop recommend and adjust agronomic practices for assigned fields including fertility irrigation Integrated Pest Management (IPM) cultural practices and seasonal maintenance strategies.

5. Determine appropriate field preparation and maintenance practices based on weather field conditions event schedules athlete safety and playability.

6. Establish and maintain baseball and softball field preparation standards including clay management mound and home plate maintenance moisture management infield preparation and game-day setup.

7. Monitor irrigation systems and diagnose and address irrigation issues affecting assigned fields.

8. Coordinate and prioritize daily and seasonal maintenance activities for baseball and softball facilities in consultation with the Turf Manager and athletic staff.

9. Identify developing field or agronomic issues and recommend long-term corrective measures renovation needs materials and maintenance strategies.

10. Provide technical direction and guidance to grounds staff assisting with baseball and softball maintenance and game preparation.

11. Operate mowers tractors sprayers sod cutters and other powered equipment as necessary to execute field maintenance and agronomic programs.

12. Perform cultural practices including aeration topdressing overseeding verticutting fertility applications and other specialized turf-management activities.

13. Lead and perform baseball and softball game-day preparations including clay work mound and home plate preparation moisture management line striping tarp handling and inclement-weather response.

14. Perform preventative maintenance on equipment used in assigned field operations.

15. Exercise independent judgment in responding to changing field weather and event conditions and make adjustments necessary to maintain safe and playable surfaces.

16. Supervise and direct field crew operations in the absence of the Turf Manager when employees are assigned to the operation ensuring work is completed safely and to standard.

17. Perform other related duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

Formal requirements include grounds or turf management experience and a valid drivers license. Experience with sports turf at the collegiate level is preferred.
