Job Summary:

As an Assistant Roadmaster youll support the Roadmaster in supervising Maintenance of Way (MoW) employees and managing the safety and reliability of our railroad infrastructure. Youll work outdoors in all weather conditions overseeing the maintenance and repair activities of your team across a territory.

This position is more than just maintaining and building infrastructure its about building a strong team fostering growth and creating a positive work environment. Youll be hands-on in interviewing hiring and training new team members while also supporting their development through performance reviews coaching and recognition. When challenges arise youll be the go-to person for resolving issues with fairness and professionalism and fosters collaboration across departments and driving progress toward track and capital project goals.

See our employees in action to learn more at with the Roadmaster to manage the day-to-day oversight of maintenance and repair activities surrounding the MoW functions ensuring compliance with all federal state and other applicable railroad safety and operational regulations

  • May perform track structure and maintenance alongside the crew
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure efficient and organized operations of the railroad
  • Manage and ensure department meets its track signal and capital projects service goals
  • Perform supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizations policies and applicable laws
  • Supervise hourly employees in the MoW Department
  • Hire new employees to fill vacancies; train all employees in operating practices according to federal regulations and company policies; and support the discipline process as needed
  • Monitor and closely control all maintenance and other related costs associated with the Department
  • Conduct efficiency and operating tests according to company practices
  • Conduct incident investigations (derailments personal injury etc.) and prepare associated reports
  • Manage projects and perform other duties as assigned
