Job Overview:The Assistant Prosecuting Attorney assigned to Training/Professional Responsibility and Discovery plays a vital role in supporting the Prosecutors Office. This position is responsible for planning creating organizing and conducting at least 12 hours of in-house CLE annually. Additionally this position is responsible for providing advice to the Office and the Offices clients on the rules of professional responsibility and ethics. And finally this position supports the Offices legal and ethical discovery obligations through the management organization and disclosure of criminal case materials. Under the supervision of the Administration and the Chiefs of the Grand Jury and Criminal Divisions this position coordinates with law enforcement agencies Assistant Prosecuting Attorneys and defense counsel to ensure accurate timely and compliant processing of discovery materials.
Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Plan create organize and conduct at least 12 hours of CLE in-house annually with at least one of these courses being Professional Responsibility and/or Ethics.
  • Create and assist with new criminal trial lawyer training.
  • Advise members of the Prosecutors Office or the Prosecutor Offices clients on the Rules of Professional Responsibility and Ethics.
  • Advise member of the Prosecutors Office on potential conflicts of interest.
  • Advise members of the Prosecutors Office on the Rules of Professional Responsibility and Ethics.
  • Be available to members of the Prosecutors Office for post-training follow up on issues of Professional Responsibility and Ethics.
  • Act as a liaison between law enforcement agencies trial APAs and defense attorneys to ensure a smooth flow of case files
  • Receive review organize and prepare discovery materials submitted by multiple law enforcement agencies.
  • Identify missing incomplete or deficient discovery materials and proactively coordinate corrective action.
  • Process and manage digital evidence including body-worn camera footage surveillance video audio recordings and electronic records using platforms such as .
  • Respond promptly and professionally to discovery requests and communications from defense counsel.
  • Maintain accurate tracking of discovery status disclosures deadlines and related case activity within the case management system.
  • Redact confidential or sensitive information in accordance with applicable laws court rules and office policies.
  • Communicate effectively with law enforcement agencies internal legal staff and opposing counsel regarding discovery matters.
  • Support training initiatives procedural improvements and updates related to discovery compliance and digital evidence submission practices.
  • Support APAs with document review exhibit preparation and trial binder organization as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctorate.
  • Licensed to practice law in the State of Ohio.
  • Working knowledge of criminal law court procedures and discovery rules (e.g. Ohio Criminal Rule 16). Ability to apply legal concepts to real-world evidence and case documentation.
  • Demonstrated accuracy in reviewing legal documents identifying discrepancies redacting sensitive information and managing case-related deadlines.
  • Ability to apply legal concepts and procedural requirements to evidence management and case documentation.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism discretion and sound ethical judgment.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage high-volume workloads prioritize competing responsibilities and meet strict deadlines across multiple cases.
  • Proficiency with legal and digital evidence platforms including and other systems used for processing electronic evidence and case materials.
  • Ability to maintain a positive working relationship with attorneys investigators law enforcement personnel court staff and external stakeholders.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey information clearly professionally and effectively.
  • Recognizes the importance of self-care emotional well-being and resilience in a fast paced trauma-exposed work environment and maintains healthy professional practices to support sustained performance and sound judgment.

Knowledge of:
  • Office practices and procedures; Ohio Criminal Statutes; Ohio Rules of Criminal Procedures; Ohio Rules of Evidence.
Ability to:
  • Communicate effectively in oral and written form; develop and maintain working relationships with team members judges witnesses other attorneys police officers and other court personnel; Litigate complex and serious criminal issues; Train and instruct team members.
