Assistant Professor in Philosophy

The Department of Philosophy at UTEP offers an intellectually diverse environment for philosophical research and teaching with faculty working across a broad range of areas and traditions. The department offers both B.A. and M.A. degrees in Philosophy as well as minors in Philosophy and Feminist Philosophy. The M.A. program is an important part of departmental life providing opportunities for graduate teaching and mentoring offering both thesis and portfolio options and providing pathways for its graduates to high-level Ph.D. programs. UTEPs location on the U.S.-Mexico border also creates distinctive opportunities for philosophical work connected with the social political and cultural life of the region. The Department of Philosophy invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor position beginning in Fall 2027. The area of specialization is Social and Political Philosophy. Immigration ethics is a required area of competence. Duties includeboth undergraduate and graduate teaching standard non-teaching expectations and a rigorous and consistent research agenda.

Required qualification: A Ph.D. in Philosophy or a closely related field is required prior to appointment.

Preferred qualifications:The ideal candidate will be able to collaborate across departments on immigration-related work both with colleagues and with M.A. and Ph.D. students. Bilingualism and experience working with diverse student populations and first-generation students are highly desirable.
