EmoryUniversitys Department of Film and Mediainvites applications fora tenure-trackAssistantProfessor position in Media Industry Studies to beginon August 1 2027.The successful applicant will join a growing dynamicundergraduate programata R1 research university which offers a Film and Media major and minor a minor in Media Production and a Concentration in Film and Media Management (a joint program with the Goizueta Business School)

We are looking foran active andinnovative scholar who can enrich and expand our existing strengths in Media Industry Studies.We welcome applications from scholars with awiderange of specializations and methodological approaches.We are particularly interested in scholars who take a critical approach to the historical and contemporary study of the film television and digital media industries and who havea strongtraining in the broader field of cinema and media studies.

In addition toofferingcourses in their area of expertise thishire will be expected to teachmedia industry classes includingHistory of the American Media IndustryIntroduction toMediaIndustriesandthe Film and Media Management Concentration capstone course. Special consideration will be given to those who can also teach existing core curriculum coursesincludingbut not limited toAmerican TV History.

Media industry studies is an area of growth for our department and we are particularly interested in candidates who have experience or interest in curriculum building;leading experiential learning opportunities for studentslike oursummer programin LA Treksto LA and NYC and site visits inAtlanta;mentoring of students interested in careers in the media industry;and alumni engagement.

MinimumQualifications:

  1. A Ph.D. in Film & Media Studies or a related fieldat the time of appointment
  2. Evidence of a program of sustained scholarship and an active research agenda
  3. At least 2 years of successful teaching experience at the university level
  4. Interest incontributing to a scholarly community that prioritizes equity and inclusion
