Assistant Produce Manager

Position Summary
The Assistant Produce Manager supports the Produce Manager in overseeing daily department operations ensuring fresh high-quality products strong sales performance and an outstanding customer experience. This role helps lead the produce team maintains merchandising standards and ensures food safety and inventory controls are consistently executed.

Key Responsibilities

Department Operations

• Assist in managing daily produce department functions including stocking rotation and product presentation
• Ensure product freshness quality and proper handling at all times
• Maintain accurate pricing signage and planogram execution
• Support ordering and inventory management to achieve optimal in-stock conditions

Customer Service

• Deliver exceptional service by assisting customers with product selection and providing product knowledge
• Resolve customer concerns quickly and professionally
• Promote seasonal items featured products and healthy meal solutions

Inventory & Shrink Control

• Support inventory accuracy through proper receiving stocking and rotation (FIFO) practices
• Monitor and reduce shrink through proper handling culling and storage procedures
• Assist with periodic inventory counts and department audits

Team Leadership & Development

• Support supervision of produce associates ensuring productivity and adherence to standards
• Assist with training coaching and developing team members
• Help create a positive team-oriented work environment focused on accountability and performance

Merchandising & Visual Standards

• Maintain a clean fully stocked and visually appealing department
• Build and maintain attractive displays that drive sales
• Ensure wet rack tables and displays are properly rotated filled and signed

Safety & Food Compliance

• Follow all food safety sanitation and health regulations
• Maintain proper temperature control and product handling standards
• Ensure a safe working environment by enforcing safety policies and procedures

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• 2 years of grocery or produce experience preferred
• Previous leadership or supervisory experience is a plus
• Strong communication organization and time management skills
• Knowledge of produce products handling and merchandising preferred

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift push and pull up to 50 lbs frequently
• Ability to stand walk bend and work in wet/cold conditions for extended periods
• Flexible schedule including early mornings weekends and holidays
