Job Summary
The Assistant Produce Manager supports the Produce Manager in leading all aspects of Produce Department operations. This position is responsible for helping drive sales ensuring exceptional product quality maintaining department conditions controlling inventory and shrink and delivering outstanding customer service. The Assistant Produce Manager assists with supervising associates executing merchandising plans and maintaining food safety standards while supporting overall store goals and profitability.
Key Responsibilities Department Operations- Assist in overseeing daily Produce Department operations.
- Ensure displays are attractive well-stocked and maintained according to company merchandising standards.
- Monitor product quality freshness rotation and dating to maximize customer satisfaction and minimize shrink.
- Assist with ordering receiving inventory management and stock replenishment.
- Maintain accurate pricing signage and promotional execution throughout the department.
- Ensure proper storage handling and presentation of all produce products.
- Deliver exceptional customer service by greeting and assisting customers promptly.
- Provide product knowledge preparation suggestions and recommendations.
- Resolve customer concerns professionally and in a timely manner.
- Promote a positive shopping experience that drives customer loyalty and repeat business.
- Assist with training coaching and developing Produce associates.
- Help assign daily duties and monitor task completion.
- Promote a positive productive and customer-focused work environment.
- Support department leadership in achieving operational goals.
- Assume department leadership responsibilities in the Produce Managers absence.
- Ensure compliance with all food safety sanitation and health regulations.
- Monitor proper temperature controls storage conditions and handling procedures.
- Maintain department cleanliness and safety standards.
- Follow company policies regarding food safety workplace safety and regulatory compliance.
- Support department sales gross profit and labor objectives.
- Monitor inventory levels to reduce out-of-stocks and excess inventory.
- Assist with shrink control through proper ordering rotation and product handling practices.
- Support promotional activities and merchandising strategies that drive sales growth.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous produce grocery retail or food industry experience required.
- Prior supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Knowledge of produce handling merchandising and inventory management preferred.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Basic mathematical organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Frequent bending reaching lifting and carrying throughout the workday.
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Ability to work in refrigerated environments and varying temperatures.
- Ability to push pull and maneuver carts pallets and merchandise.
- Flexible availability including mornings evenings weekends and holidays.
