Honors courses are offered in all core classes (English History Mathematics and Science); Advanced Placement (AP) courses are available to qualified students in grades 11 and 12.

The Opportunity:

The Assistant Principal of Student Support will report directly to the Principal and will work cooperatively with the Assistant Principal of Academics Deans of Curriculum and Deans of Students to build a positive effective school-wide climate and to develop and student support systems and activities within a comprehensive program that enhances student engagement and achievement helping all students meet Cambridge Rindge and Latin School academic social and civic learning expectations.

Key Responsibilities:

Student Engagement & Community Building:

  • Collaborate with the CRLS Principal leadership team and relevant team representative from the Office of Student Services to devise programming and systems that best support students qualifying in all high-need categories i.e. students with disabilities English language learners and students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
  • Propose and support community building and student recognition activities with Deans of Students across and within learning communities.
  • Oversee viable and supported school-wide student government and class activities programs and advisors
  • Supervise support and initiate school hour and after-school programs to increase student engagement and achievement through activities that address the wide range of academic social and developmental needs of students including student clubs and club advisors homework support counseling intervention and youth empowerment activities and other opportunities designed to meet student needs and interests.
  • Initiate the planning process to implement requirements for student extracurricular participation.

School Climate:

  • Facilitate meetings of Deans of Students the Director of Safety and Security and staff and others to promote consistent application of Student Handbook policies and procedures across learning communities for compliance with expectations for behavior.
  • Support school-wide efforts with Deans of Students to increase student attendance in school and classes and to oversee related data reporting and analysis.
  • Work with the Deans of Students to promote teacher capacity to foster an effective classroom environment.
  • Supervise and evaluate the teacher in charge of 504s.
  • Oversee the conflict mediation program.
  • Publish student and other handbooks and documents as needed. Work with the data center to prepare reports that provide student participation rates trends and program analyses.

Facilities Oversight:

  • Assume responsibility for oversight of facilities maintenance building permits and evaluation of custodial staff to ensure a safe and clean building; collaborate with central administration staff on building and grounds construction projects.
  • Supervise the lunch period including assignment of safety specialists and administrators to ensure optimal conditions for safety and cleanliness of buildings and grounds.

School-Wide Special Events:

  • Coordinate CRLS Graduation and other school special events.
  • Coordinate with staff to schedule student activities for scheduled X-block periods and other school-wide events and assemblies including the opening of school orientation activities.

Other:

  • Conduct evaluations participate in hiring committees and perform other duties as needed.
  • Oversee the Crisis Response Team data reporting.
  • Provide student supervision during lunch periods and transitions.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Masters degree with coursework in educational administration; five years teaching/administrative experience preferably in a diverse urban multicultural multilingual setting. Required Massachusetts licensure/certification: Principal/Assistant Principal 9-12.
