Job Summary
TITLE: ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL
- Experience in teaching and/or administration totaling at least five (5) years
- Valid New York State Certification: SAS SBL or equivalent
Responsibilities:
The Assistant Principal works in a team approach with the Principal providing educational and managerial leadership in all areas of policy procedure and philosophy of the school. The Assistant Principal is in charge of the administration and management of the school in the absence of the Principal and performs the following duties:
- Consults with teachers on discipline matters.
- Discusses student problems with guidance counselors when deemed necessary.
- Interviews and counsels students regarding the effect of their behavior on their educational experience and the total school community.
- Conducts and/or participates in teacher/parent conferences regarding student behavior.
- Referral of students to the school psychologist in cases deemed necessary.
- Maintains files of the discipline records of all students.
- Responsible for the organization and supervision of detention.
- Responsible for the registration of all student drivers.
- Serves as Chairperson of the District Safe and Drug Free Schools Committee.
- Responsible for teacher attendance and the implementation of teacher substitutes in collaboration with the teacher aide/sub coordinator.
- Works with the Principal in conducting evaluations classroom observations and professional growth.
- Responsible to oversee the schools attendance procedures and Serves as Chairperson of the Student Attendance Review Committee.
- Serves as the coordinator of student activities.
- Oversees the preparations of the student handbook and annual school calendar.
- Responsible to oversee the Driver Education Program.
- Oversees the assignment of lockers to students.
- Assists the Principal in the preparation/implementation of the annual school budget.
- Supervises the preparation of all awards programs.
- Assists the Principal in preparing the orientation program for faculty staff parents and students.
- Serves as a member of the Shared Decision Making Team Department Chairperson Committee Scholarship Committee and Student Assistance Team.
- Responsible to oversee the implementation of a new teacher-mentoring program.
- Works cooperatively and serves as liaison with police agencies.
- Interviews and evaluates substitute teachers and also dismisses if necessary.
- Performs any other related duties as need develops or as assigned by the Principal.
