Job Summary

ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL

Description of Position

The Assistant Principal aids the principal in enforcing policies ensures all activities function effectively and assumes the duties of the principal in his/her absence.

Area of Responsibility

Duties include but not limited to the following:

  • Aid the principal in establishing and maintaining a school-wide discipline program
  • Supervise that portion of the instructional program and teaching process assigned by the principal
  • Supervise the collection and distribution of all textbooks and consumable supplies
  • Interview prospective employees in the absence or discretion of the principal and make recommendations
  • Observe supervise and evaluate staff as assigned by the principal
  • Assist in orientation of staff and in planning and conducting staff and professional development meetings
  • Perform any duties relative to the master schedule as assigned by the principal
  • Maintain accurate attendance records for staff and students and complete and refer all designated reports of attendance
  • Maintain accurate files and records of disciplinary actions taken during the school year
  • Assist principal in supervising custodial staff
  • Supervise and report all drills for safety hazards
  • Assist the principal in securing positive publicity for the school
  • Maintain fixed assets in the designated building
  • Distribute updated fixed asset reports to district Fixed Assets Coordinator
  • Assist with annual physical inventory with guidance from Fixed Assets Coordinator
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the administration

Supervisory/Program Areas

Certified and classified personnel in his/her building as assigned

Qualifications

  • At least three (3) successful years experience as a classroom teacher
  • Endorsement 486
  • Must possess administrative and leadership skills and be able to effectively communicate both written and orally
