Job Summary

The Boise State University Department of Construction Management (CM) seeks to hire two full-time 9-month tenure-track professors one at the Assistant rank and one at the Assistant or Associate rank beginning Spring 2027 or Fall 2027. The successful candidate will bring construction management industry expertise and innovative scholarship to our growing program. As part of our accomplished and supportive faculty youll contribute to a thriving forward-thinking program thats experiencing exciting growth including the launch of our new state-of-the-art ESI CM Building. This faculty position includes teaching face-to-face undergraduate courses conducting research and publishing in areas related to construction management and contributing to the departments service and outreach activities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The department is committed to offering a high-quality educational experience for students in an academic setting. Teaching responsibilities may include undergraduate courses in the following areas: introduction to construction management construction materials & methods drawings specs & codes construction estimating scheduling MEP Systems construction surveying construction safety soils & construction equipment project management jobsite management advanced concrete methods and materials project cost controls and/or statics and mechanics of materials. The normal teaching load for this position is 6-7 credit hours per semester (typically 2 courses) depending on department needs. The successful candidate will have some experience in the US construction industry and be able to bring that experience to the classroom as well as engage in continuing education to remain up-to-date in the profession.

The candidate will be expected to develop a productive research program related to construction management including grant writing securing external funding publishing in peer-reviewed journals and presenting at academic conferences. While we aspire to have one there is currently no graduate program in the CM department so the successful candidate will be expected to engage undergraduate students in research projects and seek collaboration with graduate students from other related departments for research and mentoring opportunities.

In addition to teaching and scholarship the candidate will be expected to participate in departmental discussions and decisions related to content learning outcomes and pedagogy in the program. The candidate will be expected to mentor students and participate in service activities such as working with student organizations clubs and competition teams. The candidate will also be expected to contribute to the department college and university through service on committees and participation in professional organizations. The successful candidate will demonstrate a team-player attitude.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • PhD in Construction Management Construction Engineering Civil Engineering or a closely related field required; ABD candidates will be considered if the degree is conferred before the start date.

  • One (1) year of U.S.-based industry experience related to construction.

  • Demonstrated ability to teach construction management courses.

  • Evidence of scholarly achievement in construction management or a closely related discipline commensurate with rank.

  • Evidence of or potential for developing and sustaining a successful research program including pursuit of external funding.

Rank Determination:

Appointment at the Assistant or Associate Professor level will be based on the successful candidates qualifications experience teaching record scholarly accomplishments and research funding history.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Teaching experience at the undergraduate level.

  • A strong record of research as evidenced by multiple publications in peer-reviewed journals.

  • Experience in grant writing and securing external grant funding.

  • Professional certifications or licenses related to the construction industry.

  • Experience using current construction management technologies and industry software applications.

  • Experience incorporating emerging technologies including AI-related tools into professional practice or instruction.

  • Active membership in construction-related associations or organizations.

Salary and Benefits:

Our standard faculty contract is a 9-month yearly renewable contract (unless otherwise noted) with pay and benefits spread over 12 months. The expected salary range is $90000-$95000 at the Assistant Professor rank and $100000-$105000 at the Associate Professor rank commensurate with qualifications and experience.
