Job Summary
Position Summary
The Assistant Meat Manager supports the Meat Manager in leading all aspects of the meat department ensuring high-quality products food safety compliance and outstanding customer service. This role assists in driving sales managing inventory controlling shrink and developing a high-performing team while maintaining department standards.
Key Responsibilities Operational Execution
- Assist in overseeing daily meat department operations including cutting packaging merchandising and inventory control
- Ensure all products meet quality freshness and presentation standards
- Maintain proper rotation labeling and storage of all meat and seafood products
- Support ordering and receiving to maintain in-stock conditions while minimizing shrink
- Ensure proper use and maintenance of equipment and tools
Customer Service Excellence
- Provide exceptional customer service and product knowledge
- Assist customers with custom cuts special orders and product recommendations
- Resolve customer concerns quickly and professionally
- Promote department items through suggestive selling and seasonal offerings
Team Leadership & Development
- Assist in hiring training and coaching meat department associates
- Provide performance feedback and reinforce company expectations
- Foster a safe productive and team-oriented work environment
- Support scheduling and labor planning to meet business needs
Sales & Financial Performance
- Support achievement of department sales margin and shrink goals
- Execute merchandising plans including displays and promotions
- Monitor waste and implement shrink reduction strategies
- Identify opportunities to improve sales and operational efficiency
Food Safety & Compliance
- Ensure strict adherence to food safety sanitation and health regulations
- Maintain proper temperature controls and logs for all meat products
- Enforce safe food handling practices and regulatory compliance
- Maintain a clean organized and food-safe work environment
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Previous meat cutting meat department or related experience preferred
- Supervisory or leadership experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of meat products and food safety practices
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Flexible schedule including nights weekends and holidays
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Frequent lifting of up to 50 lbs; occasional heavier lifting with assistance
- Work in cold environments (coolers and freezers)
- Ability to safely use knives and meat processing equipment
