Student Outreach and Support
Student Outreach & Support (SOS) helps students succeed by connecting them to resources and services developing a plan of action to meet their goals and navigating challenging situations. The SOS staff creates an inclusive and welcoming environment for students to develop and utilize skills in self-awareness self-advocacy resilience and navigation to maximize their educational experience.
Position Summary
The Assistant Director of Student Outreach and Support have a combined focus on support and intervention. They are responsible for the integrated case management of student behavioral intervention and proactive support and outreach. This integrated position reports directly to the Director of Student Outreach and Support with a liaison role to the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities. This role balances addressing behavioral standards with proactive care initiatives. They are responsible for assigning cases in partnership with the Director and supervising appointed and non-appointed staff. The Assistant Director of SOS is the Acting Director in the Directors absence.

Essential Functions
Case Management and Behavioral Intervention
- Manages a caseload of high-level students experiencing significant disruptions to academics due to mental health behavioral or personal challenges.
- Supervises evaluates and trains appointed and non-appointed staff positions to support case management intervention and resolution. This includes both within the Dean of Students Office and with partners such as Housing and Residential Education (HRE) and other key partners.
- Partner with the Director on Case Reviews referrals and assignments. Serve as the backup for SRR case assignments in the absence of the Associate Director of SRR
- Supports higher level student situations for CARE and other processes including Interim Actions and Interim Suspensions as the student support representative and other processes as assigned by the Director of SOS
- Faculty and Staff Consultations planning interpretation and action on the intersections of support and intervention with academic policies such as but not limited to academic exceptions academic standards policies as outlined in the bulletin and DoS policies including Medical Leave of Absence/Reentry Student Assistance Fund CARE team Honor Code-disruption to the learning environment and other relevant policies/processes.
- Partner in writing researching and evolving student policies in partnership with departmental area and divisional leadership annually.
- Coordinate Resolution and Support for higher level cases in consultation with the Director of SOS or designee and for Restorative Justice Informal Resolutions under the supervised guidance of the Director of SRR or designee.
- Crisis Support and Intervention partner with crisis situations to provide support and response with CARE Team Critical Incident Response team and other relevant process.
- Serve as liaison and on committees with key partnerships across campus to streamline communication intervention and support.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Detail orientated and strong organizational skills.
- Familiarity with federal state and institutional policies impacting student services (e.g. FERPA Title IX Clery Act). Excellent interpersonal communication and conflict resolution skills with the ability to engage effectively with students faculty staff and external partners.
- Ability to respond to and manage complex student situations with discretion sound judgment and a student-centered approach.
- Deep understanding of student learning and development theory.
- Strong written verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
- Knowledge of Case Management Software (Maxient)
- De-escalation skills
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in related area and five (5) years professional experience.
- Experience with conduct
- Experience with working with undergraduate and graduate students
- Experience working with faculty
- Experience with implementing student policies
Preferred Qualifications
- Masters degree in related area and eight (8) years professional experience
- Demonstrated experience designing implementing and assessing comprehensive student support programs that promote retention persistence and holistic student well-being.
- Proven leadership experience managing multiple functional areas (e.g. student outreach case management basic needs support wellness and student engagement programs).
- Experience supervising professional staff building high-performing teams and fostering a collaborative and accountable work environment.
- Experience collaborating across campus units (e.g. academic affairs enrollment management counseling services and student life) to coordinate integrated student support systems.
- Knowledge of best practices in student development theory crisis response behavioral intervention and case management in a university setting.
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering a culture of care belonging and student success within a dynamic and diverse campus environment.
Working Environment
- Standard office environment.
- Unexpected interruptions occur often and stress level is moderate to high.
- Noise level is quiet to moderate.
Physical Activities
- Ability to work in front of a computer for extended periods of time.
- Occasionally required to move about the office/campus.
Work Schedule
This position requires employees to work onsite 8:00am-4:30pm with occasional evening weekends and holiday shifts. (Schedules vary by department and position.) Staff are expected to support student Hallmark Tradition and other program events throughout the year. The University of Denver and Student Affairs recognize the utilization of flexible work arrangements where these arrangements are operationally appropriate and supervisor approved.

The salary grade for the position is 10.
Salary Rate:
The salary rate for this position is $64000.
The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate departmental budget availability internal salary equity considerations and available market information but not based on a candidates sex or any other protected status.
