Summary:
In collaboration with the Associate University Librarian for Operations and Services(AUL) provides leadership and oversight for day-to-day operations of the User Services department including customer service access services staff and student employee supervision policy development and resource management. Supports strategic planning manages circulation functions within the Alma library system ensures effective service delivery and advances user-centered services that support library and university goals.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Manages the functions of the User Services department and development implementation and review of departmental collaboration with the Associate University Librarian for Operations and Services (AUL) provides leadership in the development of departmental goals and long-range planning. Oversees departmental inventory and resources and requests and recommends purchases of departmental resources. Provides training to departmental and library staff as needed. : 25%
  • Provides leadership in the areas of staff and student employee development. Supervises departmental staff in areas of responsibility overseeing work to meet department library and university goals. Oversees student employment program activities across the department. Includes hiring training supervising and evaluating student employees in areas of responsibility. : 25%
  • Develops interprets and evaluates department and operating policies to ensure they are human-centered and support the library and university missions. Provides leadership to library personnel in the execution and interpretation of library policies and procedures. Responsible for data collection in areas of responsibility including building headcounts and circulation statistics. : 15%
  • Responsible for the management and integrity of Alma functions and configuration for the User Services department. Collaborates with other library departments as needed on policies and procedures. Processes reports to support library operations. : 15%
  • Provides customer service in-person on the phone and online. Resolves complex patron inquiries and evaluates the need to override or grant exceptions to policies and procedures. Monitors the building while on duty which includes processing work orders to facilities and contacting facilities or campus police as needed. Performs basic tasks and duties in the instance that the department is short-staffed and operations need to be completed. Schedule includes working nights and weekends as needed. : 10%
  • Pursues professional development activities to expand knowledge and maintain currency. Serves on library campus and professional committees. Represents the Associate University Librarian for Operations and Services (AUL) as needed. : 10%
  • Minimum Qualifications:
    Masters degree in library science or equivalent from an ALA-accredited school.
    Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in library user services.
    Minimum of 5 years of experience overseeing student employment programs.
    Demonstrated experience in project management and process improvement.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    Demonstrated success in leading and managing change and implementing new workflows.
    Strong record of setting and achieving goals through self-directed work and collaboration.

    Knowledge Skills & Abilities:
    Strong analytical organizational and problem-solving skills.
    Creative and user-oriented philosophy of library services.
    Strong interpersonal and organizational skills that facilitate collegial working relationships and effective advocacy for the library.
    Demonstrated ability in designing and coordinating initiatives and bringing them to timely and successful implementation.
    Demonstrated ability to cultivate and contribute towards a positive work environment by encouraging and supporting colleagues.
