Assistant Director of Learning Systems & Faculty Support

Position Summary
The Assistant Director of Learning Systems & Faculty Support provides school-level leadership and expertise in instructional design curriculum support educational assessment and learning systems to enhance the educational experience within the UNC Adams School of Dentistry. The position serves as a primary resource to faculty and course leaders regarding evidence-based teaching and learning practices and provides consultation and guidance in the design delivery assessment and continuous improvement of educational activities. The position works directly with faculty to provide course consultation and instructional design support; coordinate the development collection review and approval of course syllabi and Canvas course materials; develop and deliver educational training resources including online modules; and maintain standardized educational resources such as syllabus and lesson-plan templates. The position also supports curriculum mapping and works with faculty to align course objectives instructional strategies learning activities and assessment methods. The Assistant Director collects analyzes and reports student performance and assessment data to support Teaching Committee reviews and other educational decision-making. The position evaluates assessment practices within the DDS program and develops recommendations to improve the quality validity reliability and alignment of student assessments with established learning objectives. The position also provides support for classroom instructional technologies including interactive and audiovisual resources and basic classroom computer and application support. Due to the collaborative and highly visible nature of the role the position establishes and maintains effective working relationships with faculty course leaders students and other School stakeholders and serves as a knowledgeable resource on instructional design and teaching and learning best practices.

Required Qualifications Competencies And Experience
Knowledge of instructional design principles educational and learning theories teaching methodologies and instructional strategies. Ability to assist educators in identifying curriculum needs and instructional goals and objectives and in developing effective strategies for courses lectures presentations and other educational activities. Ability to evaluate course content instructional materials learning objectives and class sequencing and recommend appropriate teaching methods media organization and instructional design approaches for a variety of subject areas and learner needs. Knowledge of educational assessment and evaluation methods including the ability to develop or support evaluation strategies for individual and group learning needs. Knowledge of instructional media communications principles educational materials development and classroom techniques applicable to various educational settings. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with diverse audiences. Ability to develop professional written materials including abstracts proposals reports analyses conclusions and recommendations and to effectively present data and results. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain collaborative professional working relationships with faculty department chairs staff students and other stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications Competencies And Experience
Experience with curriculum development or instructional design in a health affairs health sciences or healthcare education environment is preferred. Experience in K-12 education is also viewed favorably.
