The Team
The facilities team is made up of a combination of staff who are employed by Mount Vernon and staff who are provided by our facilities vendor/partner. The team is responsible for maintaining our facilities and grounds which include 8 buildings and 40 acres across 2 campuses. The Role
This hands-on position keeps our 40-acre campus safe healthy and beautiful by leading the day-to-day care of our facilities focusing on grounds maintenance and outdoor projects while jumping in to support indoor maintenance and facilities needs of every kind. This role is essential because our curriculum depends on flexible well-maintained indoor and outdoor environments to provide a world-class education to our students. Strong candidates will bring hands-on groundskeeping and landscaping experience along with the versatility to help with anything facilities-related.
Responsibilities
- Lead outdoor maintenance projects preventative maintenance and outdoor event setups including athletic events.
- Perform routine indoor maintenance and repairs and jump in to help with any facilities need across our 8 buildings on 2 campuses
- Establish develop and implement maintenance policies procedures and guidelines to ensure the proper and safe operation of all building systems components and grounds
- Assist with the ongoing and long-term maintenance of mechanical electrical structural fire suppression systems elevators and other building systems through a planned/preventative maintenance plan
- Build and maintain relationships with vendors including landscaping and grounds services to ensure smooth day-to-day facility operations service repairs cycle maintenance and emergency repairs
- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair activities including work orders inspections and inventory
- Set up and support facilities logistics and operations for daily on-campus events including outdoor event setup and breakdown
- Act as a member of emergency planning and incident management including snow ice and storm response and ensure that necessary policies and procedures are in place communicated and executed
- Assist the CFO with the annual supplies maintenance equipment grounds and services budgets

- Demonstrated experience in groundskeeping landscaping and outdoor property maintenance
- Bachelors degree in a relevant field and/or an equivalent combination of 5 years of grounds landscaping and/or facilities maintenance experience
- Training or licensing in the following areas is helpful but not required: Plumbing HVAC-R or Electrical
- Experience working in facilities and/or grounds maintenance preferably in a school or church setting
- Experience coordinating vendors crews or event setups is a plus
- Familiarity with budgets purchasing or capital improvement projects is a plus
- Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to establish respect credibility and trust and maintain productive working relationships at all levels of the organization
- Knowledge of relevant health safety and environmental regulations including safe handling of landscaping equipment chemicals and fertilizers
- Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and stand for prolonged periods of time lift bend stoop climb reach sit and lift up to 50 pounds at a time and drive a 15-passenger van
- Digital proficiency in Google Suite and computer skills
- Ability to work flexible hours and be on-call for emergencies including snow ice and storm response
