CONTACT INFORMATION:Human Resources or SUMMARY/SCOPE: The primary responsibilityof this position is to assist in the management of the track program includingassisting with coaching athletes who specialize in cross-country and track& field events. The assistant will also help with recruitment of qualifiedprospective student-athletes travel planning and other daily projects asassigned by the Head Coach. HSU is a member of NCAA Division III and theAmerican Southwest Conference. This is a full-time staff position. HSU JOB FAMILY CLASSIFICATION INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: This Assistant Coach assists with Cross-Countryduring the fall semester and leads distance/hurdles in the spring semester andfor the year-round in-door track season. Cross-Country Season Responsibilities: Assist the Head Coach inimplementing the cross-country training plan; run assigned practice groups andworkouts. Supervise daily training monitorathlete workload and health and report concerns to the Head Coach. Assist with meet-day operations:warm-up management course walks split calling post-race review. Support home meet execution coursesetup and marking timing coordination volunteer assignments hospitalityteardown. Manage entries declarations andresults submission as assigned. Maintain training logs attendancerecords and athlete monitoring data for the Head Coach Track & FieldSeason Responsibilities: Coach the distance (800m10000m)and hurdle (100H/110H 400H) event groups for indoor and outdoor. Write and deliver training withinthe programs macrocycle with individual technical instruction and videoreview. Set and track performance benchmarksfor assigned athletes; coach those groups at all competitions. Coordinate with sports medicine andstrength & conditioning on load management and return-to-play. Year-Round Responsibilities: Recruiting Identify evaluate and recruitdistance and hurdle prospects; maintain contact through campus visit andenrollment. Keep an accurate recruiting boardcontact history academic profile marks funnel stage and report status tothe Head Coach on a set schedule. Represent the University at highschool meets clinics and showcases; coordinate campus visit itineraries andfollow-up. Partner with Admissions andFinancial Aid to move prospects through enrollment. Travel and logistics Plan assigned trips: itinerarylodging meals ground transportation departure/return schedules. Serve as a certified Universitydriver; supervise student-athletes in travel and enforce travel policy. Submit travel requests and expensereports accurately and on deadline; operate within assigned budget lines. Academic support and retention Monitor academic progressattendance and eligibility; coordinate study hall and tutoring referrals. Hold regular one-on-one check-ins;identify at-risk athletes early and escalate to the Head Coach and campusresources. Administrative and compliance Comply with all NCAA D-III ASC andUniversity rules; complete required compliance education. Report known or suspected violationsimmediately to the Head Coach and Compliance. Maintain accurate rosters andeligibility documentation; assist with equipment and uniform inventory. Participate in departmentalmeetings fundraising community service and camps/clinics as assigned. Perform other duties as assigned bythe Head Coach or Director of Athletics. Ability to interpret anextensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form anddeal with several abstract and concrete variables COMPUTER SKILLS: To perform this job successfully anindividual should have knowledge of Word Processing software; Spreadsheetsoftware; Human Resources systems Contact Management systems Internetsoftware; and Synergy editing system. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Bachelors degree from four-year college oruniversity required. Prior track coaching or playing experience at the high school and/or college levelis required. Prior recruiting experience with evaluationrelationship building and recruitment of student-athletes is required. Must have proficient computer skills strong workethic and effective communication skills. Must also have excellent organizational skills ascandidates will be required to provide examples of their ability to plan andorganize. The above requirements will be validated throughthe written competencies provided by the applicant in addition to the interviewprocess and reference checks regarding past employment experience etc. CERTIFICATES LICENSES REGISTRATIONS: Current CPR AED and First Aid certificationsrequired (or must be obtained). ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: This is a Full-Time Exempt Level Staff Position whichoften requires extended hours beyond a 40-hour work week especially during competitiveseason and while recruiting Frequent overnight travel is required including eveningsand weekends especially during track season. Occasionally holiday work is also required dependingon meet/practice schedule. Additional travel may be required on occasion toattend training workshops. Must have andmaintain a valid Class C Drivers License and maintain a clear driving recordto be insurable under the university liability policy. Must be able to drive tocomplete work assignments on and off campus as needed.
