The Department of Environmental ServicesWastewater Engineering and Construction Division is looking to fill two (2)Assistant Construction Inspectorpositions. The position inspects various phases of wastewater construction projects that involve the installation of sewer lines and appurtenances to assure compliance with plans specifications and other contractual agreements. The position also inspects work for compliance with applicable regulatory requirements including but not limited to those imposed by the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES).
What You Will Do:- Inspect construction workto ensure compliance with plans specifications and contract requirements.
- Monitor construction activitiesincluding grading paving concrete reinforcing steel pile driving and backfill.
- Prepare inspection reportsand maintain accurate project documentation.
- Verify completed work for contractor payments and project progress.
- Enforce contract compliance by documenting deficiencies and coordinating corrective actions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Work in field environments with exposure to construction and traffic hazards electrical hazards paint fumes sewer treatment chemicals sewage gases and moving equipment.
- Perform physical field work including climbing ladders entering trenches tanks and manholes crawling through pipes carrying equipment and walking on uneven terrain.
- May be required to travel to job sites using a City or personal vehicle.
- Regular work hours are anticipated; however may be required to work evenings weekends holidays and during emergency situations.
- Serve as a Disaster Response Worker during declared civil defense emergencies.
The Honolulu Board of Water Supply Capital Projects Division is looking to fill one (1)Assistant Construction Inspectorposition.The position works MondayFriday 7:00 AM3:30 PM and involves inspecting waterworks construction and installation projects to ensure materials workmanship and completed work meet approved plans specifications and Board of Water Supply standards. Depending on the project the inspector may work independently on smaller assignments or assist a project engineer or senior inspector on larger more complex projects.
What Youll Do:- Inspect constructionof water system projects (meters pipelines structures).
- Check materialsdelivered to ensure they meet contract requirements.
- Verify lines grades and elevations; use leveling equipment as needed.
- Inspectpipe installation and testing.
- Review backfill placementfor proper materials compaction and grade.
- Inspect falsework formwork trench bracing and manhole construction.
- Inspect curbs gutters sidewalks and pavement workfor reservoirs and booster stations.
- Coordinate with contractorson specifications workmanship and routine construction issues.
- Work with design engineerson design changes identified during construction.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
Equivalent to a high school education. Responsible work experience which demonstrated the ability to perform the essential functions of the job may be substituted for education.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
One (1) year of experience in inspecting or supervising construction work.
Examples of Qualifying Experience:
Inspectors superintendents trades supervisors working trades supervisors experience of such scope level and responsibilityas to conclusively demonstrate the ability to perform the duties ofthe position.
Substitution:
Any one of the following will substitute for the required experience:1. An Associates degree in architectural or engineering drafting from an accredited college or university; or in the Applied Trades Architectural Engineering and CAD Technologies and Carpentry Technology programs at Honolulu Community College or similar academic programs from an accredited college or university.2. A Bachelors degree in Architecture or Engineering from an accredited college or university.The education requirement must be met at the time of application. Education obtained outside of the United States must be comparable to a degree earned at an accredited college/university in the United order to receive credit for the education proper documentation e.g. a foreign credential evaluation (FCE) must be provided.
