The Department of Economic Security Division of Benefits and Medical Eligibility (DBME) is seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual to join our team as Assistant Bureau Chief. This position will report directly to the Bureau Chief and will work independently on sensitive high level and critical related issues and will provide recommendations based on the addition to supervising anywhere between 5 to 10 direct reports. Provide written and verbal guidance and recommendations to the Administrations leadership and will have the authority to facilitate and attend internal and external meetings and speak take action and provide direction on behalf of the Bureau Chief. Oversee various middle to large-sized projects responsible for researching and developing reports conducting call center visits developing and maintaining the expertise of our three addition to working closely with the Metro Program Managers to help develop them in their current roles.
This position is available for remote work on a full-time basis within Arizona (including virtual office arrangements).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Maintains a confidential direct working relationship with the Bureau Chief which includes having full decision-making authority and the ability to speak take action and provide direction on behalf of him/her.
- Supervising 5 to 10 direct reports.
- Facilitate and/or represents the Bureau Chief at internal and external meetings and accurately report back the information received in the meeting.
- Research develops and maintains various reports conducts call center visits and assists with monitoring the programs timeliness quality and interview durations for Administration.
- Oversee various middle to large-sized program related projects interview participants gather information monitor track and meet assigned deadlines.
- Consolidates researched information needed and uses a customer-centric approach to prepare verbal and written communication to internal and external customers.
- Develop and maintain expertise in the Division of Benefits and Medical Eligibilitys three programs: Nutrition Assistance Medical Assistance and Cash Assistance.

Knowledge in:
- Federal and State laws rules and regulations
- Excellent understanding of local state and federal programs and resources including legislation
- Gathering and analyzing data summarizing and report preparation/design
Skills in:
- Performing detailed analysis and making recommendations
- Organization and leadership skills
- Strong public relations and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
Ability to:
- Prioritize multiple work assignments multi-task and able to meet deadlines
- Effectively represent the Division professionally with internal and external constituents
- Write and prepare a plan for action based on the information provided produce clear and concise documents and reports
- Review and evaluate program activities analytically and develop effective work plans and methods for improvement

The ideal candidate for this position will have:
- Associates degree and one year of Family Assistance experience.
- Or a combination of high school diploma/GED skills and experience appropriate to the assignment as an Assistant Bureau Chief.

State employees are required to participate in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) the State sponsored retirement contribution plan and the Long-Term Disability (LTD) program after a 27-week waiting period. The ASRS defined benefit plan provides for life-long income upon retirement.
