Job Summary
The Assistant Bakery Manager supports the Bakery Manager in overseeing all bakery department operations ensuring exceptional customer service product quality food safety compliance and team performance. This position assists with driving sales controlling expenses maintaining inventory levels and developing bakery associates while ensuring a clean safe and inviting shopping environment.
Key Responsibilities Department Operations- Assist in managing the daily operations of the bakery department.
- Ensure product availability freshness quality and attractive merchandising standards.
- Monitor production schedules to meet customer demand while minimizing waste.
- Execute department plans promotions and seasonal programs.
- Maintain proper inventory levels and ordering practices.
- Provide leadership coaching and training to bakery associates.
- Support hiring onboarding and development of department employees.
- Delegate tasks and monitor performance to ensure operational excellence.
- Foster a positive and inclusive work environment.
- Assist in scheduling and labor management activities.
- Deliver outstanding customer service and resolve customer concerns promptly.
- Promote a customer-first culture throughout the department.
- Ensure associates actively engage customers and provide product knowledge.
- Support special orders custom cakes and other customer requests.
- Maintain appealing bakery displays that drive sales.
- Ensure compliance with merchandising standards and planograms.
- Monitor sales trends and assist with implementing strategies to increase department performance.
- Support execution of promotional events and seasonal merchandising programs.
- Assist with ordering receiving and inventory control processes.
- Monitor shrink spoilage and department expenses.
- Support achievement of sales profit and productivity goals.
- Ensure proper product rotation and freshness standards are maintained.
- Ensure compliance with company policies food safety regulations and sanitation standards.
- Maintain a clean organized and safe work environment.
- Follow all health department requirements and food handling procedures.
- Ensure bakery equipment is properly maintained and operated safely.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous bakery retail food service or grocery experience.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Ability to lead and motivate a team.
- Effective communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work flexible schedules including evenings weekends and holidays.
- Supervisory or leadership experience.
- Experience with bakery production merchandising and inventory management.
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations.
- Ability to stand walk bend and lift for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Ability to work in refrigerated and production environments.
- Manual dexterity required for operating bakery equipment and handling products safely.
