Job Summary
Position Summary
The Assistant Bakery Manager supports the Bakery Manager in driving sales execution and operational excellence within the bakery department. This role ensures high-quality product presentation maintains food safety standards and delivers exceptional customer service while leading and supporting bakery team members.
Key Responsibilities Department Operations & Execution
- Assist in overseeing daily bakery operations including production merchandising and inventory control
- Ensure all bakery products meet company quality freshness and presentation standards
- Execute production planning to meet customer demand while minimizing shrink
- Maintain proper rotation (FIFO) and dating of all products
- Support pricing accuracy and promotional execution
Leadership & Team Support
- Supervise train and coach bakery clerks and decorators
- Provide direction and support during shifts to maintain productivity and service levels
- Assist with scheduling and labor management to meet business needs
- Promote a positive team-focused work environment
Customer Service
- Deliver excellent customer service by engaging with customers and addressing inquiries
- Resolve customer concerns quickly and professionally
- Ensure a clean organized and welcoming department
Food Safety & Compliance
- Ensure adherence to all food safety sanitation and health regulations
- Maintain compliance with company policies procedures and audit standards
- Monitor cleanliness of equipment cases and production areas
Inventory & Financial Performance
- Assist in inventory management ordering and receiving processes
- Help control shrink and waste through proper ordering and production planning
- Support achieving sales margin and labor targets
Qualifications
- Previous experience in bakery operations or food retail preferred
- Leadership or supervisory experience preferred
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Knowledge of bakery production food safety and sanitation standards
- Ability to work flexible schedules including nights weekends and holidays
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Frequent lifting of up to 50 lbs
- Repetitive tasks such as decorating slicing and stocking
- Ability to work in refrigerated environments
