Job Summary

JOB TITLE:Art Teacher

REPORTS TO:Principal/Assistant Principal

OVERVIEW

The Middle School Art Teacher is responsible for providing engaging standards-based visual arts instruction that fosters creativity critical thinking self-expression and artistic skill development for students in grades 58 (or 68 depending on district configuration). The teacher creates a positive and inclusive learning environment where all students can explore a variety of artistic media techniques and cultural perspectives while developing an appreciation for the visual arts.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan and deliver comprehensive visual arts instruction aligned with state and district curriculum standards.
  • Develop lessons that encourage creativity problem-solving artistic exploration and self-expression.
  • Teach a variety of artistic disciplines including drawing painting sculpture printmaking digital art mixed media and art history.
  • Assess student learning and provide timely constructive feedback on artistic growth and achievement.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs interests and abilities of students.
  • Establish and maintain a safe organized and productive classroom and studio environment.
  • Integrate technology and contemporary artistic practices into instruction where appropriate.
  • Promote an understanding of diverse cultures artists and artistic traditions.
  • Manage art supplies equipment and inventory responsibly.
  • Collaborate with colleagues administrators and families to support student success.
  • Participate in faculty meetings professional development and school-wide initiatives.
  • Organize and showcase student artwork through exhibitions displays and community events.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors degree in Art Education Fine Arts or a related field
  • AppropriateMA DESE licensure/certification in Visual Arts.
  • Knowledge of child and adolescent development and effective instructional practices.
  • Strong classroom management communication and organizational skills.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
  • Experience teaching visual arts at the middle school level.
  • Familiarity with digital art tools and technology integration.
  • Experience organizing student exhibitions and community art events.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Working in a school setting. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy indoor environment with work inside about 85% of the time and work outside about 15% of the work schedule. Ability to stand/sit and/or squat for extended periods of time. Perform other duties that may be assigned.

WORK YEAR: 184 days

NORTH ANDOVER MIDDLE SCHOOL

North Andover Middle School serves more than 1040 students and their families in grades 6-8. The classroom teacher is responsible for delivering high quality instructional experience consistent with the curriculum standards of the school district. Essential duties for all faculty members include: classroom instruction; conferences with students parents and colleagues; active participation in the work of the department on curriculum development activities and pedagogy.
