Purpose:Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual emotional physical and social growth through the study and engagement in visual arts. Enable student to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate for visual arts and level assigned
- ESL Certification preferred or ESL Certification required within two (2) years of employment beginning with teachers hired in 2010-11 school year
Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge of subjects assigned
- General knowledge of design and delivery issues related to alignment for best results in student achievement
- Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
- Strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills
Experience:
- Student teaching or approved internship
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Strategies
- Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of districts curriculum program.
- Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles.
- Present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency board policies and administrative regulations.
- Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies activities materials and equipment that reflect accommodation for individual needs of students assigned.
- Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
- Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
- Cooperate with other members of staff for planning and implementing instructional goals objectives and methods according to district requirements.
- Plan and supervise purposeful assignments of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s).
- Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
- Assist students in analyzing and improving study methods and habits.
- Consistently assess student achievement through formal and informal assessments and use results to plan instructional activities.
- Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.
- Demonstrate proficient artist skills within the classroom setting.
- Assist in selection of books equipment and other instructional materials.
- Participate in district defined visual arts activities competitions and exhibitions.
- Demonstrate behavior that is professional ethical and responsible.
Classroom Management and Organization
- Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical social and emotional development of students.
- Manage student behavior and administer discipline according to board policies administrative regulations and IEPs.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment materials and facilities.
- Keep informed and comply with all safety precautions pertaining to art supplies (including maintaining accurate MSDS files) the kiln and HAZMAT awareness.
Communication
- Present positive role model for students support mission of school district.
- Establish and maintain open communications by conducting conferences with parents students principals and teachers.
- Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues students parents and community members.
- Use acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
- Articulate the districts mission and goals in areas of assigned responsibilities to the community and solicit its support in realizing the mission.
- Demonstrate awareness of district/community needs and initiate activities to meet identified needs.
- Demonstrate the use of appropriate and effective techniques for community and parent involvement.
Professional Growth and Development
- Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
- Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
- Comply with federal and state laws State Board of Education rule UIL rules and board policy in the band area.
Policy Reports and Law
- Keep informed of and comply with state district and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
- Keep informed and comply with all district visual arts guidelines.
- Attend all meetings as requested to review create and revise visual arts curriculum policies procedures and activities.
- Compile maintain and file all physical and computerized reports records and other documents required.
- The employee is expected to adhere to district employee/department/campus handbooks board policies AISD procedures the district Code of Conduct the Texas Educators Code of Ethics and all applicable laws.
Other
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief.
- Implement alternative methods of instruction as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Evaluation
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Boards policy and the Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T-TESS).
