Mount Mercy University is seeking an enthusiastic student-focused professional to join our Residence Life team as Area Coordinator. This full-time live-in position plays a vital role in creating a vibrant residential community that supports student engagement personal growth academic success and retention.

Reporting to the Director of Residence Life the Area Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day management of a residential area serving approximately 450-500 resident students and the direct supervision of approximately 20 Resident Assistants (RAs). The successful candidate will be a collaborative leader who thrives in a student-centered environment and is committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive campus community.

Primary Responsibilities

• Manage the daily operations of assigned residence halls and residential communities.
• Supervise train mentor and evaluate approximately 20 Resident Assistants.
• Promote student success through community development educational programming and student engagement initiatives.
• Address student concerns and facilitate conflict resolution within residential communities.
• Assist with student conduct processes and support behavioral intervention efforts.
• Participate in an on-call rotation to respond to student emergencies crises and campus incidents.
• Support housing operations including room assignments room changes occupancy management and opening/closing processes.
• Collaborate with campus partners to enhance students residential experience and sense of belonging.
• Assist with the recruitment selection and training of student staff.
• Support departmental initiatives assessment efforts and residence life programming.
• Serve on university committees and participate in campus-wide events and activities.
• Contribute to summer operations orientation programs and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Higher Education Student Affairs Education Counseling or a related field.
• Experience working with college students in residence life student affairs or leadership setting.
• Strong interpersonal communication organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to respond effectively in crisis situations and work collaboratively with diverse populations.
• Valid drivers license and ability to meet university driving requirements.

Preferred

• Masters degree in Higher Education Student Affairs Counseling or a related field.
• Experience supervising student staff.
• Knowledge of student development theory residential education and conduct administration.
