Anti-Human Trafficking (AHT) Survivor Support Specialist

Location: Greater Hartford Area Services (GHAS) The Bloom Initiative serving Connecticut (Hartford CT)

Status: Non-exempt Part-time Plus

Hours Per Week: 22.5

Schedule: Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday/Friday; 8:30 am 4:30 pm (includes one 30-minute unpaid meal break per day and two 15-minute paid breaks per day). Will alternate Thursday and Friday each week. Some flexibility in the working schedule will be needed to provide case management and outreach.

Supervisor(s): AHT Program Coordinator

Scope of Position: Provide comprehensive case management services to survivors of human trafficking. Serve as the primary point of contact for survivors coordinating necessary services and resources to address their complex needs including but not limited to emotional and mental health housing/shelter employment medical legal and other support services. Participate in street outreach program planning drop-in centers and community education. Operate within program budget and funds; serve as a liaison for the program; and fulfill all administrative program requirements including submission of progress reports and data entry.

• Assess survivors initially and evaluate needs before proceeding with safety planning service orientation support and referrals.
• Assist in developing and implementing an outreach plan that incorporates awareness campaigns street outreach and drop-in efforts.
• Assist outreach workers with street outreach and drop-in center programs.
• Assist survivors in accessing resources including shelter emotional and mental health services medical care employment services legal assistance and other services as outlined in their individualized service plan.
• Assist with recruiting training and coordinating volunteers to support outreach efforts.
• Attend all anti-trafficking councils committees and community meetings as requested.
• Attend case review meetings with the AHT Coordinator as requested.
• Attend relevant training seminars conferences and other professional development opportunities as instructed.
• Engage and support the community by participating in outreach efforts to increase human trafficking awareness and victim identification including presentations on the program and human trafficking issues as requested by the supervisor.
• Prepare and maintain accurate and detailed case notes and documentation for all contacts and services provided.
• Provide comprehensive case management services to survivors of human trafficking that follow a trauma-informed harm-reduction survivor-centered approach. Services will include:
  • accompanying survivors to appointments social service agencies meetings with law enforcement etc.;
  • collaborating with survivors to develop a service plan and timeline based on identified goals and barriers;
  • meeting face-to-face with survivors throughout the month to review goals and make updates or changes to the plan; and
  • maintaining weekly contact with survivors through phone calls and emails.
• Refer and connect survivors to the appropriate Corps locations for pastoral care adult and youth programs and other relevant services.
• Track program statistics and outcomes enter data draft reports and submit reports as requested.

• Bachelors degree in social work or a related social services field; two years of case management experience required.
• Prior experience of at least two years working with survivors of human trafficking or other victims of crime preferred. Experience should include providing direct service to underserved populations. Survivors of human trafficking are encouraged to apply.
• A valid drivers license is required.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to work independently on assigned duties and willingness to seek and accept supervision as needed.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.
• Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office is required.
• Excellent interpersonal skills including empathetic listening.
• Excellent organizational and case file/documentation management skills.
• Experience in public speaking and speaking to small groups is preferred.
• Knowledge of or willingness to learn a trauma-informed harm-reduction and survivor-centered approach.
• Linguistic and cultural competency to holistically serve survivors of human trafficking.
• Maintain ethical conduct by organizational policy and conduct business in a manner consistent with the organizations policies.
• Unquestioned confidentiality with sensitive personal information.
• Working knowledge of the functions of community organizations social services public benefits health care systems and related human services.
