The Opportunity

As an Animal Technologist youll play a hands-on role in the ethical breeding care and management of laboratory animals ensuring optimal welfare outcomes while supporting researchers with accurate data and expert technical services. This is a rewarding opportunity to contribute to meaningful research in a highly regulated purpose-driven environment.

About the role

Reporting to the Animal Facility Manager youll work collaboratively to:

  • Maintain and breed laboratory animals in line with standard operating procedures (SOP)s animal ethics approvals and legislative requirements
  • Ensure optimal animal welfare through excellent hygiene health monitoring and environmental enrichment
  • Perform essential animal technical procedures including injections tissue and blood collections identification and time mating
  • Maintain accurate and timely animal records relating to breeding colony performance health and dispatch
  • Monitor animal health and weight assist with treatments under veterinary or supervisory direction and promptly escalate concerns
  • Contribute to continuous improvement across animal welfare safety hygiene and procedural efficiency

Your attention to detail professionalism and commitment to ethical practice will directly support MARPs ability to deliver high-quality services to its diverse research clients.

About you

You will bring:

  • A Diploma of Applied Science (Animal Technology) or progression toward completion with relevant experience
  • Practical experience performing animal technical services including injections collections euthanasia and identification
  • Knowledge of Victorian legislation regulatory bodies and industry codes relating to laboratory animal care
  • Experience working with SPF animals barrier facilities and specialised equipment such as biosafety cabinets and autoclaves
  • Strong organisational skills sound computer literacy and a high level of accuracy in record keeping
  • The ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with researchers colleagues and students
  • A proactive approach to supervision training and continuous improvement
