Job Summary

Angus Genetics Inc. (AGI) is a for profit wholly owned subsidiary of the American Angus Association (Association). AGIs mission is to empower genetic improvement for Angus families and the global beef industry. AGI has access to the largest single beef breed genomic database in the world within the World Angus Evaluation with over 2.5M genotyped animals and accompanied by tens of millions phenotypic records to drive research and addition AGI provides genetic evaluation services to various beef breed organizations in the United States Australia and Canada.


The internship program provides a flexible and impactful research experience tailored to each students interests and projects some cases internship projects may be integrated into the students graduate program. Research opportunities span a broad range of animal breeding and genetics research including trait development genetic evaluation genomics quantitative genetics and the application of analytical methods to improve beef cattle performance and profitability. Interns will participate in applied research projects on economically important traits contributing to advancements in beef cattle genetics.



Internship Job Duties:

  • Develop familiarity with American Angus Association data and genetic evaluations.
  • Participate in research projects in beef cattle breeding genetics and genomics.
  • Analyze and interpret data using appropriate statistical and quantitative genetic methods.
  • Evaluate traits models and methodologies that support genetic improvement.
  • Prepare reports articles and present findings to the internal team.


Internship Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in an advanced graduate level degree in Animal Science Genetics Statistics or related field.
  • Experience with genetic evaluation software preferably BLUPF90 programs bash and R.
  • Experience analyzing animal breeding data sets and experience analyzing genomic data is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team.
  • Enrolled in a degree program during the Spring term preceding internship.
